Lestat Rules

I am simply replying to the Louis Rules ! essay. I do not dislike Louis. Although he is not my favorite, but I do think that he is the best and most perfect companion for Lestat. I do not mean to say bad things about him, disgrace him, or anything like that. I am just regaining some justice for my Lestat.

A lot of people blamed Lestat for being inconsiderate about Louis and Claudia. Lestat created Louis, but he never really took care of Louis. Lestat was not a good teacher. He did not answer any of Louis?questions about being a vampire. When Louis started to ask too many question, Lestat became angry instead.

It was not really Lestat’s fault. After read The Vampire Lestat, it was cleared that Lestat was bind by his promise to Marius.

“If you tell even one part,?he said another will follow, and with every telling of the secret of Those Who Must Be Kept you increase the danger of their discovery.?
“Yes,?I said. “But the legends, our origins…What about those children that I make ? Can’t I tell them ---- ?“No. As I told you, tell part and you will end up telling all.?(TVL)

Remember that Lestat created Louis, not long after he met Marius. He was still a very young vampire himself. Although, I am not saying that the older Lestat became, the wisest he became, but still. Marius who is a thousand years old vampire himself still make mistake. He admitted his mistake of creating Armand. After all, I am sure none of Louisians will ever protest about Lestat bring Louis across to the dark side.

Vampires are loner and predator by nature. Although they desperately need other immortals?companion, they can’t stand being with each other for a very long time. It is not just Lestat, but same as Marius and Pandora, and Armand and Daniel. Don’t they love each other ? Didn’t Marius and Armand created their fledgling because of love ? It is simply the vampire’s nature. A once in a century reunion is enough for them. After all, a century is nothing to a vampire who’s immortal.

I was also grieving for the other immortals I had known and loved, because they had long ago scattered from out last late-twentieth century gathering place. Folly to think we wanted to create a coven again. They had one by one disappeared into time and the world, which was inevitable.
Vampires don’t really like others of their kind, though their need for immortal companions is desperate. (TOBT)

People talk about Louis being the sensitive one, Louis being the one who loved human and wanted so much to be human again. He is mild and calm. But to tell you the truth, I am much more frightened by Louis than Lestat. Lestat is fun and adventurous. He loves to play joke on people and simply try scaring them to see their reaction, just like what he did to David. If you accidently stumbled into Lestat and manage to keep his interest, you might survive. After all, Lestat loves to kill the evildoer. But not Louis, he will kill any mortal, good or bad that steps on his path. Louis is actually the real cold blooded killer.

I read in the Louis Rules ! essay, that Louis is more fashionable than Lestat. I was shocked. Isn’t that the opposite. Lestat more fashionable than Louis ?

His clothes are old-fashioned always. As so many of us do, he finds garments which resemble the styles of his time in mortal life. Big loose shirts with gathered sleeves and long cuffs please him, and tight fitting pants. When he wears a coat, which is seldom, it is fitted like the ones I choose --- a rider’s jacket, very long and full at the hem.
I bring him these garments sometimes as presents, so that he doesn’t wear his few acquisitions right to rags. I had been tempted to straigten up his house, hand the pictures, fill the place with finery, sweep him up into heady luxury the way I had in the past. (TOBT)

Lestat has a very strong personality. He does thing the way that he wanted to. He doesn’t care about the rules or what other people think. Some may think that he is selfish and inconsiderate, but that is Lestat. It might be his flaw, but it might also be his stronger side. That is one of the reasons why he kept on having so many adventures. He stands back straight again after falling down. He doesn’t give up. He feels also. He loved very easily and therefore hurt very easily also.

I think that one of the reason Louisians love Louis is because he resembles human more. He is the most human one in all the vampires. It is exactly the same with Lestat. Lestatians love Lestat more, because Lestat is the most perfect vampire. I am not even going to reply about comparing Lestat with the blonde hair mortal. It is an insult for Lestat. Lestat is a vampire. Please put this in mind, vampires are NOT the same as mortal. Those things that are significant to human mean nothing to a vampire, such as parent and anniversaries. Vampire most of the part do whatever they want, even Louis. They are not bind by parents. Dates have no meaning for vampire. They have all the time in the world, they probably don’t even keep track of time anymore.

Not Lestat, because REALLY, by this point in your life, haven't you outgrown the overtly sexy guy with all the long blonde hair who shows up for your date by sitting in the driveway honking the horn? The same guy who is then very hurt and confused when you tell him your parents don't like him? The one who forgets your anniversary, but thinks it's okay and you immediately ought to forgive him when he takes you to this really COOL tattoo parlor he's found? The one who gets all excited over the dumbest things, with a taste for banal teen-angst poetry, the one you KNOW would be a fascinating man if only he could just have one iota of depth? The one who romances you but can't hang with you past six pm Friday, cause he's got somewhere else to go. And no, you can't come with him. And he'll have to pencil you in for Friday anyway. Is 5 pm good? (Louis Rules!)

Lestat does not deny or regret being a vampire. He lives the life given to him the best way he can. Lestat himself, was forced to become a vampire. He did not ask for it. Instead, he fight against. He failed. But did he mourned and grieved over his bad luck. He tried to live his vampire life the best he could instead. That is all we can ask from someone. To live their life, the best way one can and not mourn over their bad luck and losses.
