*Two Weeks later*
“I’m so nervous Brian. I’m supposed to get a call today if I got the part.” Lisa said over the phone. She was sitting on the couch doodling on a notebook as she talked.
“I’m sure you got some kind of part. You showed me what you did and I think you did great! You just have to think positive. And even if you don’t get the part, there are a lot more opportunities for you.”
“You really know how to make me feel better.”
“Yeah, I know.” Brian said in a cocky tone. “So, back to this AJ subject. What’s going on between you two?”
Lisa smiled as she looked at her little pictures of hearts and AJ written in them and all around them. She felt like such a ten year old for doing it but she thought it was fun.
“Earth to Lisa. Come back to the mother ship.” Brian said after he didn’t get an answer.
“What? Oh me and AJ.”
“You and AJ. Are you two dating now or what? Neither of you are telling me what’s going on.”
Lisa could tell by the tone of his voice that he didn’t like the fact that she wasn’t telling him something. She always told him everything and now that he was in the dark about something, it was really bothering him.
“It’s bothering you isn’t it?” She stated.
“Yeah it really is. You can tell me.”
“I know I can tell you. But the truth is I really don’t know what’s going on between us. Sure we’ve been spending a lot of time together but that doesn’t mean anything. We haven’t kissed or anything since the first night. I’m just starting to think that he really doesn’t have any feelings for me at all in that way. Don’t get mad at me for saying this because I know he’s your friend but I think he kissed me that night because he was horny and wanted to get laid and when I pushed him away he knew he wouldn’t get any from me. So now I’m just a friend of his or something along that line.”
There was nothing but silence on the other end of the line. Finally she could here muffled laughs from Brian.
“What is so funny?”
“You are. You really must have thought about this a lot.”
“Actually I just came up with that a few minutes ago.”
“You have to know something about AJ. He’s not your ordinary male. That isn’t all he thinks about. And I was really surprised that he actually kissed you because he recently broke up with his girlfriend of about three years. He was really torn up about it but when he saw you in the airport, the look on his face told me that he was getting over her and moving on to you.”
Lisa threw her paper on the coffee table and laid down on the couch.
“I wish you would have told all of this to me sooner.”
“Well I wasn’t sure if he was going to tell you or not so I thought I would wait.”
“So what’s the story on this girl?”
“I think at first she liked AJ but in the end I think she was just there for the money. She turned out to be a real bitch and she hurt AJ pretty bad. He really loved her and he was even thinking about marrying her and that’s not something that any of us thought he would do until he was in his early thirties.”
“I can’t believe people like that.”
“You’re telling me. Hey I have to get going. Leigh and I are going to go out. I’ll call you later ok?”
“Ok see ya.”
Lisa clicked off the phone and set it down next to her. She threw her arm over her head and soon drifted off into a light sleep.
Chapter 6
“Hey beautiful.” A deep voice whispered into Lisa’s ear.
Lisa swung her arm back and jumped up, accidentally smacking AJ in the jaw and knocking him over.
“Oh my god I’m so sorry.” Lisa said trying to help him up.
“Damn, nice shot.” He said while rubbing his jaw.
AJ got up and sat on the couch. Lisa sat down next to him and peeled his hand away to look.
“Are you ok?” she asked, still holding on to his hand.
“Yeah I’m fine. At least I know not to sneak up on you like that again.”
“I am so sorry. Is there anything I can do?”
“No really I’m fine.” He smiled and looked at her, trying to keep from laughing at the way she was acting. She was acting like she had really hurt him even though she hadn’t. Well, maybe a little.
“What are you doing here?”
“I just wanted to see if you wanted to spend the rest of the day with me.”
“Sorry I promised Julie we’d go out and do something together. We haven’t really had the time to go out and do the friend thing. And I’m stuck by the phone because I’m waiting for a call about getting the part for the tv show I tried out for two weeks ago.”
“Oh that’s right.”
AJ got up headed toward the door and Lisa followed behind him. Before he opened the door he turned around to face her.
“You know, there is something you can do for punching me.” He said with a grin.
“And what’s that?”
He moved in closer and kissed her. She wrapped her arms around him and he wrapped his around her. They were really starting to get into it but the phone started to ring. Lisa pulled away and made a mad dash to the phone.
“Hello?…..Yes this is……You’re kidding…..Thank you so much!!…..ok….ok bye.”
Lisa hung up the phone and turned toward AJ who was waiting for her to tell him with they said.
“I got the part!” She exclaimed and ran to him and he enveloped her in a hug.
“That’s great congratulations!” he said.
“I’m so happy! I’m only in it for five episodes but it’s a start.”
The door opened and it hit AJ in the back.
“I am just getting beaten up today.” He joked.
“Sorry.” Julie said as she made her way inside. “What are we all happy about?”
“Well, I got the part for the tv show we auditioned for.” Lisa answered.
“Congratulations!” Julie said excitedly and gave Lisa a hug.
“You aren’t mad that you didn’t get it?”
“Well I’m disappointed but I have other opportunities.”
“This calls for a celebration.” Said AJ.
“Well you’re going to have to do it without me. Lisa I know we were going to go out but I kinda have a date and this was the only time we could go.”
“Who are you going out with?” Lisa asked.
“Me!” Nick said as he made his way in the door. “Sorry Lisa. We’re leaving for New York in two days and she’s busy tomorrow.”
Lisa looked back at AJ who was glaring at Nick.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were leaving?” she asked.
“I was going to tell you tonight.” He answered. “We’ll only be gone for two weeks it’s no big deal.”
“Well then we have to go out and celebrate and make the most out of it since I won’t see you for awhile.”
“Sounds good to me.”
About an hour later AJ and Lisa decided just go back to AJ’s house and watch some movies. They wanted to celebrate but they didn’t want to celebrate while AJ was getting mobbed by a bunch of girls.
“The Goonies?” AJ questioned as Lisa let him search through some of the DVD’s she had rented.
“Don’t tell me you haven’t see it.”
“I haven’t.”
“Mr. McLean you are deprived.” Lisa said acting like she was completely shocked.
“Put it in then.” AJ said and walked to the couch and sat down.
Lisa put it in and sat down next to him and he put his arm around her shoulder. They were about half way into the movie when they started talking.
“AJ?”
“Hmm?” he answered.
“What’s going on between us?”
Lisa moved over so that she could look at him. He got a puzzled look on his face.
“What do you mean?” He asked.
“Are we dating, are we friends? What’s going on?”
AJ sighed and took her hands into his.
“Well I….after we kissed today….You know I have no idea.”
Lisa let out a small laugh. “Well where do you think we stand? Are you ready for another relationship or are you just looking for a friend?”
AJ lifted one of Lisa’s hands and kissed it, and then sat it back down on his knee. She could tell that he wasn’t sure how to answer that question.
“I’m not like her.” She said softly. She didn’t exactly mean to say it but she did.
“You know about her?” he asked. She nodded her head yes and he looked back down, tangling his fingers with hers. “I know you’re not. You can’t be if Brian trusts you so much. He’s pretty good at figuring out if someone is being real or not.”
“So what do you say?”
“I’d say let’s see where this all leads us.”
“You’re going around my question.” She pointed out.
AJ took wrapped her arms around his neck and brought her closer to him.
“Ok if I can’t answer you that way then how about this way?”
He brought his hand up to her cheek and slowly moved into to kiss her.
“Hey AJ where are you man?” Brian said through the intercom.
AJ and Lisa groaned and Lisa pulled away.
Chapter 7
“No he can wait.” AJ said and went back to kiss Lisa. She laughed and then stopped once they made contact.
Nick was next to talk over the intercom. “AJ you know you should really lock the doors. You never know who could just come on in.”
They finally gave up and pulled away again.
“Yeah people like Nick.” Brian laughed.
“Yeah…Hey!”
“Don’t make me search the house.”
“Oh it’s like hide and seek.” Said Nick. There was a short pause between them.
“Nick go sit in the car.”
Lisa started to laugh and AJ just shook his head.
“It wouldn’t be as funny if you were with them all the time.” Said AJ.
“AJ we know you’re hiding Lisa. I would like to have a chance to say goodbye to my best friend before I leave and you’re hogging her all to yourself.”
“Yeah we want some of her too.” Said Nick.
“Nick go talk to Julie.”
“So much for their date.” Lisa said while she got up. “On you’re feet.”
AJ held his arms out and Lisa took them and pulled him up. They walked out the door and into the kitchen where Brian, Nick and Julie were.
“Well hello it’s nice to finally see you.” Brian said.
“So what’s up?” Lisa asked.
AJ came up from behind her and rested his chin on her shoulder and wrapped his arms around her waist.
“Well we all thought that we would come get you guys and go get Leighanne and we could all go out and…What exactly are we doing?” Nick asked.
“We haven’t thought that far ahead.” Answered Julie.
“What’s this?” Brian asked pointing at AJ and then to Lisa.
“What’s what?” AJ asked with a silly grin on his face.
“This!” Brian pointed at them again and then looked at Nick and Julie.
“That’s so cute.” Julie said slipping her arm behind Nick’s back. He looked a little surprised but smiled and went along with it and slipped his arm behind her.
“Is there something wrong?” Lisa asked.
Brian grew a smile on his face. “You see I knew you two would hook up sooner or later.”
“Wait they’re just getting together? I thought they have been since we got home.” Nick said confused.
“Show’s how much you know.” AJ teased.
“Hey I know plenty.” Nick said trying to defend himself.
AJ looked over at Brian and rolled his eyes. AJ loved Nick like a brother and everything, but he wasn’t the brightest crayon in the box, definitely not a human dart.
“Just like you know that there are monsters under your bed.” Brian said sarcasticaly.
Lisa tried to keep from laughing. Nick looked from AJ, to Lisa, and to Julie, who were all trying not to laugh at Brian’s comment.
“Shut up. That was a long time ago.”
“Two months is not a long time ago.” Said AJ.
Nick’s face began to turn red and they all knew that it was time to stop picking on him or he would get too mad and then they wouldn’t have any fun with him there at all because he would spend his whole time trying to get back at them.
“So what do you two say? Want to come with us?” Brian asked Lisa and AJ changing the subject.
“It depends on if there is dancing involved.” Said Lisa.
“Why?”
“Because I feel like dancing.”
“Sounds fine to me. We just have to get my lovely girlfriend. Oh and when were you going to tell me that you got the part? Who’s the one that told you about it? And I’m the last one to know?” Brian tried to look hurt but it just wasn’t working.
“Oh I’m so sorry Brian. I should have known better.” Lisa said playing along. She got out of AJ’s grasp and walked over to Brian and gave him a big hug. “What can I do to make it up to you?”
“I don’t think AJ would appreciate what you would have to do.” He joked.
Lisa backed away so she could look at him.
“I don’t think I would either.” She replied.
Chapter 8
*One Year Later*
A year had passed by quickly. It only seemed like yesterday she had been reunited with her best friend and met the love of her life. Once she got the part working for nickelodeon she started getting bigger rolls. She was becoming a famous actress and fast. The Backstreet Boys were getting ready for the next tour that started in two days. Fatima, their choreographer, thought they would never be ready in time. For the past week they had practically lived in the studio trying to learn the dance moves. Leighanne and Lisa were there half the time, watching the poor guys dance themselves to death.
“Ok guys let’s try this again.” Fatima said as she played The Call over again. “five, six, seven, eight.”
They guys started dancing to the music, and this time no one messed up. Once they were finished with the song Fatima let them rest for a few minutes before they went on. They had been there for five hours already and weren’t nearly finished.
“Hey baby.” AJ said as he passed Lisa to get some water. She smiled at him and continued talking to Leighanne.
“You are definitely going to get the part.” Leighanne said to her.
Leighanne and Lisa had become very close since they met. They found that they had a lot in common, including their love of acting.
“I sure hope so. If I get this part it will definitely launch my career. My manager is supposed to call me once he finds out if I got the part or not. But what I’m really hoping is that we both got a part in this movie.”
Leighanne smiled. “That’s what I’m hoping too.”
She was cut off by Lisa’s cell phone. Lisa’s eyes widened as she looked at the ringing phone.
“Well what are you waiting for?” Leighanne questioned. “Answer it!”
Lisa did as she was told and picked it up.
“Hello?”
“Hey Lisa how are you doing today?” Jonathan, Lisa’s manager asked.
“Well I’m very nervous.” She answered. “So do you bring me good news or bad?”
“Well I really do hope you’re sitting down. And please don’t cry over the phone because you know how I get when you get all emotional on me. I also have the news for Leighanne, is she there?”
“Yeah she’s here too. Don’t cry? I didn’t get the part?” Lisa’s heart sank. She looked over at Leighanne, a look of shock on her face, she was almost positive that Lisa would get the part.
“Now there you go putting words into my mouth. I never said you didn’t get the part. You know you always end up crying if you do get the part. Now I’m not going to tell you that you got the part for awhile because I want to…”
“I got that part!” Lisa screamed.
Everyone in the room stopped what they were doing, watching their friend bouncing up and down like a two year old who just got a new toy.
“Oops I guess I slipped. Well I guess I shouldn’t waist any time in telling you that Leighanne got the part too. You are Kelly Fisher and Leighanne is playing the part of your friend Ashley Baker.”
“That’s a bigger part than we tried out for!”
“The producers think you can do it. Congratulations Lisa.” Said Jonathan. “But I do have to go and get this all straightened out. You start in two weeks. I’ll see you then.”
“Thank you so much! Bye.”
Lisa turned off the phone and looked over the Leighanne.
“Leigh we both got parts! You’re Ashley Baker and I’m Kelly Fisher!” Lisa exclaimed.
“No way.’ Leighanne said now believing her. “I can’t believe this!”
They both hugged each other and turned their attention to everyone else who were staring at them.
“Alright I knew my baby could do it!” AJ exclaimed running over to her and giving her a hug.
Everyone in the room congratulated the two girls and they all decided to go out for dinner than night and celebrate. That is if Fatima was actually going to let them go.
“First we’ve got some work to do here.” She said. “Let’s get started.”
The hours flew by, Lisa and Leighanne were talking about the movie and eventually Julie joined them and heard the news.
“I’m so happy for you guys!” Julie said. “Make sure you get me some autographs.”
“Alright guys I’ve worked you hard enough. Go out and have some fun tonight.” Fatima said while turning off the stereo. She didn’t have to tell the guys twice. They were all out the door within two minutes before Fatima could change her mind. Julie, Leighanne, and Lisa ran after them after they said their good-byes to Fatima.
“Ok ya’ll meet us at AJ’s place in about an hour.” Lisa said before anyone ducked into their car. They all agreed and went home so they could get ready. Lisa got in her car and followed AJ back to his place. She was perfectly fine with what she was wearing. But if she changed her mind she had some extra clothes at his house. They were her emergency clothes. She never knew what she would end up doing when it came to AJ.
