~Chapter 9~ Over the course of 2 months AJ and April were still going out, Holly and Howie started dating too. Brian has had a couple first dates, but nothing more. Nick just can't find the right girl, and Kevin and I have stayed just friends. "April please help me." I begged. "Just ask him. I just need to know if he would want to move on too. I hope you know I won't stop begging you until you do." "Fine, fine I'll do it. Just stop being so annoying." "Thank you. It won't be that hard for you. Just ask him, I mean he does live with the guy. He doesn't have to actually ask him. I just want to know if he has said something." "Ok I'll ask him tonight. Oh my god! I totally forgot to ask you, do you want to come with us tonight? Holly and Howie will be there. Brian and Nick have dates too, but they're going somewhere else. But Kevin is staying in tonight." "Oh that's ok. I'd just be a bother. Plus, I would feel really strange being there with out a date. But thanks for asking." "All right then. Holly should be here soon then. The guys are coming to pick us up soon too." Holly opened the door in the next two minutes. "Hey guys ready to have some fun?" Holly said. "Yep, ready to go." She replied. Holly looked at me and asked if I was going. I told her no, and she didn't say anything after that. Five minutes passed and the guys showed up and they left.  At around ten o'clock the phone rang, I answered it of course, and it was my mom. "Hi mom. How are you?" I asked. She sounded depressed, "Nikki, I think you might want to sit down for this." I did what she said and sat down, I had so many bad ideas running through my mind, but nothing was like what I heard in the next minute. "Honey, I know there is no easy way to put this, but Matt has cancer. We just got the results from his tests a few minutes ago." I couldn't say anything. My own brother has cancer. I just couldn't believe it. I didn't want to talk over the phone with someone so I told her, "Mom I have to go. I'll call you back later." "All right I'll let you go. Just remember if you need anything just call. Bye." "Bye mom." and I hung up. I wasn't crying yet, I could feel the tears forming, but they wouldn't come out. I called Kevin because he was the first person that I could think of at that time. I dialed his number. He picked up because he was the only one at his place. "Hello," he said. "Hi Kev its me Nikki," I took a deep breath, "I just found out my brother Matt has cancer. Could I come over?" "Yeah, do you want me to pick you up?" "No, I'll be fine. Thanks, I'll be over in a few minutes." "Ok I'll be waiting, bye." We hung up. I didn't stop to think about the situation, I put on my shoes, got my keys, locked up the apartment, and went to my car. I drove to Kevin's place as fast I could. I didn't cry at all in the car. When I got there he opened the door and took me into his arms. Right them I started bawling. He kissed the top of my head, and told me that everything would be ok. We just stood there for a while. I started to stop crying. We moved to the couch, and just sat there for a while. He got me a tissue. "Nikki, please stop crying." He said in a comforting voice. "Ok. It's just...I don't want to loose my older brother. He was always there for me. Now, What should I do for him?" "I don't know. Later you have to call your mom and find out more." "Ok. I would have asked her over the phone before, but I needed to talk to someone in person. So thanks for letting me come over." "It no problem. I just don't want to see my friends cry." Then it hit me, we were still 'just friends'. I still wanted us to be more than friends, but it didn't let him know that.  An hour later, AJ and April came in. When April saw me there I know she was confused. "Ok," she said, "ummmm why exactly are you here Nikki?" "Well, hi to you too." I started to get choked up a little bit after that, so Kevin said for me, "Nikki just found out that her brother has cancer, so she came over to talk to me." "Awww, why didn't you call we would have came back." April said. "I didn't want to ruin your night." I told her. "Ok we should go now, bye." April said while she went over to give AJ a kiss. "Bye," I said. Kevin got up, gave me a hug and whispered in my ear "Every thing is going to be fine."  I whispered back into his ear, "Thanks for everything."  We let go of each other. April and I left the house. ~Chapter 10 ~ "So Nikki, tell me the details about your night." April told me after we got in my Jeep. "Fine if you're really that interested." I told her the whole thing, the call I got and everything that happened at the house. "Other than the fact my brother is dying, the only other depressing part is that Kev and I are still just friends." I said after I explained everything, "Did you ask AJ anything?" "No he just changed the subject really quickly. My guess is that he has feelings for you." I could feel myself practically glowing at that point. "Wait, why doesn't he show his feelings if he has them for me?" I asked April as we turned into the parking garage. "I don't know. Why don't you just ask him out if you want to so bad?" April asked. "I would but I don't want him to say no. He could not have feelings for me, and then I would look and feel like a fool. Plus if I did and he said no, our friendship would be totally messed up. But on the other hand a strong friendship does make way for a strong relationship. Please stop me if I start making no sense at all." "Nikki, I think you are making sense, but just to help you out I'll ask AJ one more time, and I think I'll get a better answer from him this time." Holly was sitting on the couch when we got in the apartment. Howie dropped her off. "Where do you think you were!" She shouted with an angry look on her face. "I was over at Kevin's place, sorry I guess." I said. "Well you could have some how told me!" Holly shouted again. "Down girl," April said to Holly, "calm down and she'll explain everything." "Ok here I go..." I told her everything in detail so she wouldn't bite my head off again. "Wow, Nikki I'm really sorry. I wouldn't have acted like that if I knew. I was just worried. "Sorry." She said with a guilty look on her face. "It's ok, but it's 1 in the morning and I'm tired. Night." I said with a yawn. "Night." They both said. When I got into bed I didn't actually go to sleep, I just laid there thinking about Kevin. ~Chapter 11~ "Nikki, get up!" "Why?" I groan. "The guys just called and wanted to know if we wanted to spend the day at their house" April shouted again, except this time I was standing right next to her. "Ok you can stop yelling now. I 'm right here." I said. "When are we supposed to be over there at?" "Oh in 15 minutes. "What?! Thanks for giving me sooo much time. Gotta change." 10 minutes later I was ready. There was a knock on the door. "Let me guess, Holly." I said as April opened the door. "Ok I'm here. Man Nikki, you look like you just woke up." "That's cuz I did." I gave my evil eye to April who just mouthed a "what?" to me. When we got to the guy's house AJ, Kevin, Brian and Nick were waiting for us. When we got out of the car April went over to AJ and gave him a kiss, while Holly and I said hi to the guys. AJ and April were inseparable from that time on they kept kissing each other for at least 5 minutes. "Ok you guys," Nick started, "you better stop it or we'll have to hose you two down." Everyone but April and AJ laughed a little, they seemed to ignore Nicks threat. I looked at Nick and behind him I saw a green garden hose.  Nick saw me staring at him and mouthed "what?" I mouthed back "Look behind you." So he did. After he saw the hose and gave an evil little smile. I smiled back. I knew he was thinking what I was thinking. I asked Brian a question, so the attention wouldn't be on what Nick was doing. He got the hose, and when AJ and April kissed again I yelled, "Fire!" Nick sprayed them. AJ and April looked at each other while everyone was laughing hysterically. Nick and I were laughing too, but when I saw the expression on their faces I screamed, "Oh shit! RUN!" Nick and I ran to the house aiming towards the backyard when Howie opened the door, I ran into Howie to get in the house. Nick was right behind me. Howie turned around to ask us what happened, but we slammed the door in his face before he could say anything.  I locked the door, but Nick said, "That won't help, we have one of those hidden keys." "At least it will hold them until we find weapons." I looked out the sliding glass door, and then I saw the perfect weapons, noodles. I ran out the back door with out saying a word. I grabbed the noodles and ran back in the house. We could hear AJ turning the key to the front door. "Get over here." I shouted at Nick. He ran towards the back door where I was. I threw him a noodle and we went out the door.  AJ and April ran inside and saw us out by the pool. I could faintly hear April say, "I got Nikki." Nick and I got ready to fight AJ and April. They opened the door and came towards us. AJ lunged at Nick trying to steel his noodle, but instead Nick hit hi sunglasses. The glasses flew off AJ's face. April and I just looked at each other in ah. All Nick said was, "Oh my god!" dropped the noodle, and started running. I looked behind April towards the house and saw Holly, Kevin, Brian and Howie. Their faces looked the same. Their facial expression was telling me that they thought Nick was going to die. April grabbed the noodle Nick dropped and was facing towards me. We said nothing and started going at each other like gladiators. When we started fighting we were at least 5 feet away from the pool now I was on the edge of the pool. "You must die!" April shouted. She took one cheep shot, and I was in the water. When I got to the surface of the water I could hear her laughing with Holly, Kevin, Brian and Howie. I looked to see if she was watching me. She wasn't, but she was pointing at me while she laughed, so I pulled her in by her hand. "AHHHHHH!" April screamed while she falling the pool. We were all laughing, even April when we heard another scream. Then we saw Nick followed closely by AJ. Nick must have figured that AJ would soon catch up to him, and kill him, so he jumped into the pool. AJ was about to jump in after him, then he changed his mind. I guess he just gave up on Nick. Nick looked surprised when he saw that AJ was still out of the pool. We were all laughing as April, Nick and I got out of the pool. AJ and April kissed the second she got out. "Guess they just don't listen." Brian said to Nick who had an angry look on his face. The rest of the day we just hung out doing nothing special. Holly, April, and I left their house around 8:00 because April and I have to work tomorrow. ~Chapter 12 ~ "D, Bone come on they must have told you something." Kevin said to Howie and AJ after we left. Well, maybe April might have mentioned something about someone." AJ said hinting to Kevin. "Yeah, I'm listening, explain." "Ok when we were out the other night, April asked if you had feeling for Nikki, other than you guys just being friends. I changed the subject, cuz' I didn't know what to say. My guess is that Nikki has feelings for you and wants to know if you feel the same." "I heard the same from Holly," Howie added. Kevin had a smile on his face and said, "That's exactly what I wanted to hear. Do you guys think I should ask her out?" "Why shouldn't you?" Howie asked. "You obviously love each other, so why shouldn't you two be together?" "D makes sense," AJ said, "you got to ask her, soon." "All right I will, but now the question is how?" "Ummmm, well it's got to be surprising, just to make it interesting. You don't have to tell us how your going to ask her, but if you do, we won't tell Holly or April." Howie said.
