Interviews

This interview was done at Edgefest '97, in Barrie, Ontario. Much Music's Rick the Temp interviewed Scott and James from finger eleven.

Rick the Temp - We're with the band formerly known as the Rainbow Butt Monkeys. I don't know why they changed the name to Finger Eleven. Finger Eleven, hey guys!

James - How ya doin'?

Scott - How ya doin'?

Rick - James?

James - Yes.

Rick - And Brad?

Scott - How ya doin'? Scott.

Rick - I'm doing good. Scott. Someone introduced me...ah...okay. There's another Brad, there's a few other Brad, more other Brads...over there.

James - There's no other Brads.

Rick - Scott? Scott. And James. Things are going okay?

James - Yeah they're going really good.

Rick - You guys were up on stage a little while a ago?

Scott and James - Yeah.

Rick - And how was it?

James - We had a really good time. It was a little nerve racking. We havn't played for a couple months and it's all new stuff...

Rick - What have you been doing?

James - Recording.

Rick - Recording?

James - Yeah. We've been recording since January, on the new album...

Rick - The last time we talked, was last year at Edgefest '96. We're talking again. You have a new album coming out. This is what's, what's happening?

James - Yeah.

Rick - Last album was amazing. New album, is it gonna be just as amazing, or better?

James - I think better.

Rick - A little better?

James - Yeah.

Rick - Ahh, sure you guys say that, you're in the band.

Scott - (laughing) Yeah.

James - It's different, but I think it's a lot better.

Rick - I agree. Finger Eleven. What, is that, does that mean something?

Scott - Umm, well, there was a lyric in a song, and umm, as far as, we just thought it was a cool sounding name, you know. It meant something in the context of the song. But now we're not using it since we're using it as a, a, a name. So I had to change the lyric.

Rick - I see. So it was a lyric in one of your songs?

Scott and James - Yeah.

Rick - Not someone else's songs?

Scott - Yeah.

Rick - Okay. Who wants the boomerang, who wants the ball?

Scott - I'll take the ball.

Rick - Okay, there you go (laughter). Because, okay, 'cause I have to hold the mic. Okay? We each get something. It's Canada's birthday today...

James - No one's going to get hurt are they?

Rick - No one's gonna get hurt. You might wanna try and hit Edwin up there (pointing to stage where I Mother Earth is doing their jam session). Edwin's, I think he's playing those bongo's up there, and they're, they're getting to my head right now. So if you could shoot that thing and hit Edwin so he could stop playing those bongo's it would be a lot better (laughter). It's Canada's birthday. Do you know how old we are?

James - A hundred and twenty-seven.

Scott - A hundred and twenty-seven was it?

Rick - A hundred and twenty-seven?

Scott - We figured it out on the way here.

Rick - You figured it out?

Scott - Maybe we didn't.

Rick - You think you figured it out? I came up with one hundred and thirty. Who's right (asking camera man)? One hundred and thirty? Me? I'm right.

Scott - Oh man.

Rick - Off by three years. But you've been the closest so far.

James - Oh really?

Rick - Ahh, yeah, Verve Pipe guessed, they, they thought we were seventeen-years-old (laughter). But again they're American. And, I'm not gonna say that Americans don't know that much, 'cause we're good friends with the Americans.

Scott - Of course.

Rick - What should we wish Canada on their hundredth and thirtith birthday? Any birthday wishes?

Scott - Oh boy. Uh, how 'bout a very happy birthday. How's that for originality? You just said that. Oh man, that's terrible. Too much sun I think.

Rick - Yeah, a lot of sun, a lot of sun. See what the sun does to your hair (points to Scotts blue hair)? Holy man. It turns it blue (laughter). Okay guys, we're gonna let you go. You're off to your next ah, location. You're doin' all Edgefest shows?

Scott and James - Yeah.

Rick - This year, all eight of them?

James - Yeah.

Scott - I think so.

Rick - Good luck on the rest of them and lets go to one of your videos. Which one do you want to see? James?

James - This ones ahh, As Far As I Can Spit.
