ESSENTIAL ALBUMS OF THE 90's (and also some KILLER SINGLES)

Listen To My "TOP TEN TRACKS"

Get all the Information from UBL

UBL

beastie boys : hello nasty (1998)

an ultra-hip comeback album for the hippest white guys in town (eat your dookie, vannila ice). mad samples, crazy hooks and cool ryhmes. instead of discussing about babes (first lp, "license to ill"), they have matured. but then, the fun element still rules. you know you're onto something cool when you get a song entitled, "dr lee, phd". ad-rock, mca and mike-d rule!

moments to die for : "intergalatic", the mad sample of the los angeles negros, "i don't mean to brag, i don't mean to boast, but i'm intercontinental when i eat french toast.."
crap moments : basically none, maybe except for the not-so-fun moments on a fun lp (?)

black sabbath : reunion (1998)

to me, black sabbath (the original 4 guys, not the ones with crap people in it) is the original metal meastro. for my generation, ozzy, iommi, ward and geezer never released anything together until now. so, this is the replacement. a live recording. heaviness is the agenda here. probably, the best sabbath recordings since the 70's heydays. and also, ozzy's as tuneless as ever. but then who cares? a live greatest hits package.. all that you can ever ask for.. nah, don't ask for ronnio james dio's sabbath.. hah

moments to die for : "paranoid", "black sabbath", "iron man"
crap moments : the new songs are crap. and some classics are left out..

bt : flaming june (single-1997)

probably one of the ultimate dance tracks. this german powerhaus is an undergrounder over the east. first saw the mesmerising video and then... gosh, i need to get this track!!! well, couldn't find the single but the album (escm) will do. but the only track i've been playing is the 8 minutes magnum-opus... flaming june. nuff said. now, anybody wanted to party.. this is the track to play.

moments to die for : the killer melody that brings out the beats (?)
crap moments : shouldn't have ended at 8 minutes, should go on... forever.

butterfingers : 1.2 milligrams (1996), butter worth pushful (1997), trancendence (1999)

best malaysian band. no one can touch these guys. first heard of them through thr early in the morning on an acoustic session (who's frank sinatra?). they might sound like another grunge wannabes but they rock like mad. they might not sell a lot but that's the point, they are not selling out (just selling more copies). cool. pushful includes the most rocking instrumental i've ever heard (vio-pipe). their live performances are brutal too. easily blow away those sissy ballad-bands. they kicked ass. they got one killa drummer too.. long live the drums.... awwooahhh. the chaos. the controlled chaos. by the way, the first lp sold around 12,000 while the 2nd lp sold 20,000. the 3rd lp shows an entrance into a more experimental side of the band..

moments to die for : everything!!!!!!!!! just listen to the hooks, baby.
crap moments : lyrics that make not much sense

cocteau twins : four-calendar cafe (1992)

soothing sounds from elizabeth and co. a really really smooth recording. ambient-like background with awesome guitars here and there. faye wong even covered some of cocteau's songs. smoothest-record ever? probably. they are not together anymore. sad. music for the weird generation.

moments to die for : the whisper-like dreamy vocals and the layered vocals...
crap moments : can't catch what's elizabeth is singing

creed : what's this life for (single-1997)

there are so many tuneless mindless songs from the modern-rock charts but this is one that stucks in my head. about life...? losers? well, "hooray, for a child that makes it through"... most likely to be an one hit wonder but then... what's this life for.... my anthem when i was down low. it's so sad and angry. and that sapp dude sounded like eddie vedder. "but they ain't here anymore, don't have to settle no goddamn score, coz we all live under the reign of one king..".

moments to die for : what's this life for.. the words!
crap moments : the only listenable song from creed

dj shadow : endtroducing..... (1998)

the dj saviour. it's all beats, beats and more beats accompanied by killer and sometimes totally out-of-this-world samples. the repetitive beats just hit you right in the nerves. josh davies uses obscure samples to spark a dj revolution. a great lp to chill out ....

moments to die for : "building steam with a grain of salt" and "stem/long stem".
crap moments : not for everybody. might blow your head off.

everclear : sparkle and fade (1995)

an awesome trio from portland. drug-laced personal experience and killer hooks made this album truly special. and on "summerland", it's an "up" track for the down. this album contains some really magnificent hooks. "santa monica", check it out. also, one of the best title ever... "you make me feel like a whore".

moments to die for : the rocking hooks.
crap moments : they couldn't reach this pinnacle again.. pity.

the farm : all together now (single-1991)

probably the single that sums up the "madchester" scene. and this band isn't even from manchester. this liverpool act came up with a "no-war-be-friends" anthem filled with killer hooks. try to get the u.s. single as it contains 7 versions of this pure-pop song.

moments to die for : wicked intro and killer chorus.
crap moments : more of a few-hits-wonder. a malaysian advert ripped-off the intro.

guns n' roses : use your illussions 2 (1991)

from the moment the line from "cool hand luke" comes out from your speakers, you know this is something special. probably the best cock-rock (big-hair rock) lp for me, even better than their "appetite for destruction". this album overshadows illussion 1, by far. the peak of gnr power is shown by having the balls to record a 9-minute track, "enstranged" and releasing it as a single. 9 singles are taken from the 2 lps but illusion 2 proves it's superiority by having "get in the ring"!!!!! slash at his guitar-powered form. word's can't really describe this gigantic bastard of an album.

moments to die for : "civil war", "enstranged" and everything else!!! and those ridiculous videos.
crap moments : none. though self-indulgences do come into question. still, better than "appetite.. " for me. these days, axl is the only original member left.. which means they are not that dangerous anymore.

hayden : everything i long for (1995), the closer i get (1998)

a do-it-yourself recording (diy). a genius not known to the masses. pure feelings. the best thing to come out of canada (apart from one sarah mclachlan). acoustic galore. took me 2 years to find this masterpiece. thanks 3:16. has always been on my deck. vocals that can move mountains and the emotion... nuff said. the 1998 follow-up is not as consistent, a little uneven but there is a song that chilled me out everytime i listen to it... that song alone is worth the whole album... "you are all i have"... the emotions and the words... it's like god-send....you are all i have... am i all you have... thank you mr. hayden. songs are the pissed but weak..

moments to die for : everything especially "stem" and "you are all i have"
crap moments : the 2nd album isn't that consistent...

jay-z : hard-knock life (ghetto anthem) (single-1998)

probably my favourite hip-hop track of all time. that is why i got this on single. the backing sample is simply out of this world.. broadway's annie. he's phat. and also, jay-z's a story-teller, not much a ryhmer, so, check out what he spits. he's good. the anthem for the grounded. chill.

moments to die for : the mighty sample
crap moments : can't get enough of this song...

jeff buckley : grace (1994)

a man gone too soon (involving a freak swimming accident). son of folk-hero tim buckley. left us with only one full album. a man with an astonishing vocal range. his falsetto inspired thom yorke to record the brilliant "fake plastic trees". this album showcases what jeff is able to do... writing awesome songs and singing incredible covers, "lilac wine", "hallelujah" and "corpus christi carol".

moments to die for : a mind-blowing take on cohen's "hallelujah" and a breath-taking vocal.
crap moments : none. pity he had to go so soon....

john cale : fragments of a rainy season (1992)

which former velvet undergrounder is better? john cale or lou reed? many said it's lou but i will go for john. this is what an unplugged session should sound like.. accompanied by only a piano and guitar, cale's baritone voice reaches new heights. with really great songs, this man can do no wrong. and by covering leonard cohen's "hallelujah", he showed the other extreme this song can go (check out jeff buckley's version for comparison.) simply awesome. i got this lp from san franscisco, thanks dude.

moments to die for : the personal "thoughtless kind", "buffalo ballet", "hallelujah" and the beautiful "style it takes"
crap moments : the end of the kings-of-low-frequency?

klf : the white room (1991)

from the duo that burned a million pound (or did they?), the best uk-made dance record. in the same league as moby. master djs and sometimes mad men. pity about those sheeps. these people even sampled the mc5 and the crowd noises from u2's rattle and hum. woooahhh. justified but not ancient. the u.s. version is a piece of crap. get the u.k. version.

moments to die for : nearly everything on this album especially "last train to transcentral"
crap moments : the end of the kings-of-low-frequency?

korn : korn (1994), life is peachy (1996), follow the leader (1998)

heavy, really really angry and full of profanities (that's the best part). this is heaviness at it's dirtiest for some. for me, it's great stress remover and they really kick some serious arses. got the first 2 albums imported in through friends. and also, thanks to kerrang!. heavy duty electrifying rock tunes.. with groovy bass and killa stop-start guitars. of course there is the raw guttural growl and sometimes whisper-like vocals from jonathan davies. you can sense the change from "korn" to the hip-hop flavoured "..leader". oh yeah, i managed to get the limited edition of "... leader" with strange remixes of "all in the family".. heavy!! ".. peachy" is less memorable but then there's "adidas". all day i dream about sex (that's what i am..).

moments to die for : too many of them to list down.. but pay attention to jonanthan in "daddy".. it's scary.
crap moments : the emergence of more hip-hop influenced tracks.. and the rather uneven "... peachy".

live : throwing copper (1994), secret samadhi (1997)

tc is a big-seller. samadhi is not. anyhow, both contains really really good songs. samadhi is more towards religious-side. the lyrics are getting more and more complex and layered. tc contains "all over me". oh... yeah, "shit towne" too.. tc is a more rocking affair while samadhi is rather sombre but they still rock. oh yeah, there are 2 versions of videos for "lakini's juice" and "turn my head". the original video of "lakini's.." is pretty well, exposing.. got a shirt from straight-outta-york. look where all this talking got us, baby..

moments to die for : "all over me" (song about falling in love with someone who doesn't love you or is it falling in love with a prostitute?), "turn my head"
crap moments : samadhi's complex lyrics and i lost contact with a cool s-o-y, tanya murnock.

massive attack : blue lines (1991)

this is a monumental album in trip-hop/dance culture. the album that everyone compares to as the ultimate dance-culture album.. or whatever hop you wanted to call it. featuring tricky kid and shara nelson together with the collective djs and human beings... this album contains 2 of the most innovative yet charming tracks.. in "safe from harm" and "unfinished sympathy". words can't really describe this lp. you have to listen to it!!!

moments to die for : "safe from harm" and "unfinished sympathy"
crap moments : not much...

q all-time albums rank : 58

uk peak : 13
uk sales : 393,000 (as of 1997)
worldwide sales : 958,000 (as of 1997)

mercury rev : deserter's songs (1998)

honestly, what can you expect with an album title like this... definitely not some shitty crap of happy songs. this is an unknown band which came up with an album which the uk press lauded as the best for '98. still they are virtually unknown in us. if you just got pissed coz your babe decided you're not cool enough for me, listen to this.. if your life is topsy-turvy, listen to this.. it bounds to hurt more (nah, you'll feel better knowing that they are people feeling the same way). a lonesome night spent with jonanthan's whiny vocals and carefully structured songs help. by the way, one member is named "grasshopper"!!!

moments to die for : "holes", "opus 40" and "goddess on a hiway".
crap moments : some of you might not stand the whiny vocals.. hah.

metallica : metallica (1991), s&m (1999)

the former is the best metal album of the 90's if not of all time (nah, "master of puppets" is the best..) and the metal is the first metal(or)chestra live recording. riffing that bleeds and songs that stick. heavier than any metal. the pinnacle of metal. got it right after jota 91 ("metallica"). blasted stone of concrete on "don't tread on me". this is the anthem for all wannabes.. the riffs are so brutal.. as if they are made to piss on people (??..). Comparable to "master of puppets". "s&m" at times sounded much terrifying that anything metallica has ever done. the basses from the trombones (and whatever else) lent a really chilly low-based feel to the metalli-anthems. although at times, things sounded messy but who else got balls to play live with a bunch of formally-dressed people? simply astonishing. by the way, metallica is the biggest selling band of the 90's.. man, that's awesome (better than some sissy bands). "if i die before i wake..."

moments to die for : "enter sandman", "the unforgiven" and all those riffs. the orchestra added new depths to those metalli-anthems
crap moments : "load" and "reload" suck.

moby : everything is wrong (1995), play (1999)

the king of techno. the first superstar dj. ambient tunes. dancey tunes. hardcore guitar tunes. what else can you ask for. even had a track on the "scream" soundtrack. took me 2 years to get it (from victoria) this is techno-dance greatest moment. and boy... isn't this guy an earth lover... and he's a relatives to the dude who wrote "moby dick".. luckily he's back to the electro roots with "play" after the mess called "animal rights". "play" is awesome considering the amount of strange and obscure samples used. he's real mad... really.

moments to die for : "everytime you touch me" and "first cool hive" and the fact that he's back with "play"
crap moments : "hymn" is too short. he turned into a punk dinosour once.

nine inch nails : the downward spiral (1994)

the pinnacle of industrial music. ministry created it. nin fine-tuned it. this album shocked the world through it's melodic tracks filled with sick perverted thoughts of trent reznor. it has since became a standard for industrial releases. and it brought the "f" word to top 40 stations and mtv.

moments to die for : "heresy", "closer" and the last 2 shocking tracks.
crap moments : is the song "the downward spiral" about the late great kurt cobain?

nirvana : nevermind (1991)

the first grunge album that stormed into the top spot, beating off mj. kurt's crowning glory. raw and heavy. put seattle on the music map. what an awesome vid for "...spirit". and those flannel shirts.. the start of a generation of the disillussioned and dark bleak lifes... and also the beginning of the shitty modern-rock movement.. ".. spirit" however, is not the best track here.. for me that is the cracking mad "stay away"

moments to die for : "monkey say, monkey do, i'd rather be dead than be cool" (stay away)
crap moments : kurt, gone too soon

q all-time albums rank : 5

uk peak : 7
uk sales : 975,000 (as of 1997)
worldwide sales : 9.9m (as of 1997)

oasis : definitely maybe (1994)

a rocking album. better than the slow-soft sophomore. this album rocks. showed what noel could do when he is not sober. this is swagger of an album. the arrival of a really unpredictable band. fastest-selling debut album in uk. noel even wrote a song for his mother ("live forever")... loud and brash.

moments to die for : "live forever", "slide away"
crap moments : they never rocked like this since. it's been downhill since.

q all-time albums rank : 14

uk peak : 1
uk sales : 1.8m (as of 1997)
worldwide sales : 3.6m (as of 1997)

padres : night (1997)

what a brilliantly produced album from a band from singapore. tracy su (crap chinese diva) covered "water". this is the awesome major debut from a good band. u2-like guitar and brutal drummings. i love the drummer!!! no one thought asians can record these songs. influenced by the uk scene. good songs created by a good band... pity, they have split.. otherwise, the world's theirs. oh those drums...

moments to die for : "november 91", "sustain"
crap moments : joe's vocals on, errr "...on". they have split up

paradise lost : draconian times (1995)

one of the best uk metal release... this album contains what the typical dark broading metal will sound like.. except there are killa tunes... killa vocals... killa keyboards.. and killa sick sample... (charles manson).. this is a pinnacle of british traditional metal... one "hell" of an album...

moments to die for : all the songs are brutally brilliant... "yearn for change", "enchantment"
crap moments : bar none.. the only disappointment is their follow-up album is techno sounding and loss all it's glittery majestic gloom...

pavement : slanted and enchanted (1991)

the arrival of big-time indie-pop, us-style. pavement single-handedly created a poppy (hah) lo-fi scene with this killer of a debut. "summer babe" (winter version) itself is worth the price of this lp and is much better than anything on the mainstream pop radio stations. unpolished gem. stephen malkmus's lazy vocals floats beautifully with the raw-untuned (?) guitars.. awesome. just awesome. the godfather of lo-fi.

moments to die for : everything's so pop. "summer babe" (winter version) and all those crazy song titles
crap moments : they should rule the airwaves of the world but this world is an injustice place... damn. no crap moments.

pearl jam : ten (1991), vs (1993), live on two legs (1998), last kiss (single-1999)

one of the bands (with aic, nirvana and soundgarden) that broke grunge into the mainstream. corporate whores? i don't think so. "ten" is a cracker of a debut. furious and angry. got "ten" even before it entered the us chart. thanks kerrang!. "vs" is an awesome follow-up. even more angrier. "vs" was the fastest-selling record in us. one million on it's opening week (cowboy brooks broke the record later but cheated along the way). got "vs" right after the spm (o-level) examination. both albums had eddie going screaming... and the stone and mike combo.. rocks like crazy. then came the fall from the stairs of creativity. however they came back with the really strong live album which once again showed that pj is an awesome live act. "last kiss" is an old song which was covered by pj for their fan-club members.. but then put on general release on "no boundaries".

moments to die for : "once" (ten), "rearviewmirror" (vs)
crap moments : they went weird (vitalogy), soft (no code) and tuneless (yield) but back to form on "live on 2 legs"

q all-time albums rank : 54 (ten)

uk peak : 18 (ten)
uk sales : 700,000 (ten) (as of 1997)
worldwide sales : 13.5m (ten) (as of 1997)

prodigy : music for the jilted generation (1994), the fat of the land (1997)

"so, i decided to take my work back underground..". the former is pure dance and an anti-establishment piece of work. check out the mighty "their law". hardcore rave dance with flavours of break-beat in it.. "don't stop" is one hell of a dance track. the latter is the breakthrough dance-rock album that hit no.1 in 22 countries. liam's a genius. keith's the firestarter. maxim with the weird looks and leroy....(the coolest dancer around apart from bez) what else do you want?

moments to die for : "don't stop (start the dance)", "their law", "breathe", smack my b**** up"
crap moments : "smack my b**** up" the title, not the song

q all-time albums rank : 62, 9

uk peak : 1, 1
uk sales : 575,000, 850,000 (as of 1997)
worldwide sales : 2.25m, 5.1m (as of 1997)

public enemy : fear of a black planet (1990)

"going, going, gone..". probably the most critically acclaimed rap act of all time. and also probably the best rap album of all time. an outspoken band with a very strange hierachy of operation (they have various posts just like an organisation..). but then chuck d and flavor flav are different. instead of singing about adidas, they sang on injustices in this sick world. and the bomb squad provides a really cool backbeat and scratches.. simply breathtaking.

moments to die for : "911 is a joke", "fight the power" and the rhymes.
crap moments : sometimes they just went too political with ill-advised comments by some of the "ministers"

radiohead : the bends (1995), ok computer (1997)

the former is more about personal relationships and space (?). the latter is more obscure and complex. maybe about computers. maybe not. anyway, both albums contain melodic songs and words that really really made me think (of what?). one of the best live bands around. a band with really clever and yet make-no-sense videos... that's good, isn't it? thom has the dreamiest vocal in music and boy.. that johnny can sure play the 6-strings.

moments to die for : the sadness on "fake plastic trees" and "no suprises". the ending of "let down". and everything else
crap moments : none

q all-time albums rank : 6, 1

uk peak : 6, 1
uk sales : 800,000, 500,000 (as of 1997)
worldwide sales : 1.9m, 2.0m (as of 1997)

rage against the machine : rage against the machine (1992)

the best rap-metal album of all time. controversial cover (monk on fire). unbelievable guitars. and zach's vocals. music for the suppresed! political rock at it's most potent.

moments to die for : "killing in the name", "why stand on the silent platform, fight the war...." you know the rest
crap moments : another sad case of a fine debut, a crap sophomore

rem : out of time (1991)

for me, this is better than "automatic for the people". at least, this is a happy album. the singles are great but the non-singles work out the best. rem's best album. the bleak songs are really moving. the words are all hard to decipher and michael stipe well.... writes nonsensical lyrics sometimes. a great album for a great band.

moments to die for : "near wild heaven", "texarkana", the bleak "country feedback"
crap moments : bill berry left.

q all-time albums rank : 38

uk peak : 1
uk sales : 1.5m (as of 1997)
worldwide sales : 12.0m (as of 1997)

sarah mclachlan : surfacing (1997), mirrorball (1999)

probably the only female singer i bear listening (apart from the mighty faye wong, lauryn hill and tori amos). the former is a dark lovelorn album. it's difficult to describe it. her voice is angelic. and she does write very good songs. words just can't describe this album. "mirrorball" is a live recording. no listing of the venues but who cares. an awesome performance, she sounded just like on records. fanstastic.

moments to die for : everything
crap moments : nothing

sebadoh - harmacy (1996)

the world gains when j mascis kicked lou barlow out of dinosour jr. the dino went out of existence while sebadoh rises like a rocket (you sure?). this is a lo-fi melodic rock. they are the "serious" lo-fi king, unlike pavement's "cool" king (?). it's just pure pop-rock, at times sounding like a rockier beach-boys (minus the harmonies). it's a personal album, according to king lou. well, judging from the love-betrayal theme of the lp, it's more like a poppy personal album. check it out at all cost.

moments to die for : the rocking "beauty of the ride", the personal "willing to wait" the drug-themed "too pure" and the fiery "i smell a rat"
crap moments : it's a lo-fi lp, therefore nobody knew of it's existence

silverchair : neon ballroom (1999)

teenage angst by teenagers. this rocks. their best album (and probably the one selling the least). no doubt about it. the diversity and ability of daniel johns to write songs is simply breathtaking.. the opener is one hell of a killer track with help from the piano player from the movie "shine".. classic.. this is a band who have gradually improved their level since the days of "isreal's son" and "tomorrow".. the future of australian music, nuff said.

moments to die for : the first 5 tracks. awesome!. and also the choir version of "anthem for year 2000"
crap moments : the awesome first 5 tracks overshadowed the rest of the album

spiritualized : ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space (1997)

a suprisingly good space-rock lp out in the 90's. textured sounds with a murky mix. great songs with some lennon style of lyrics. oh yeah, the original 1st track actually contains the whole lyrics of "can't help falling in love with you". no suprise, it is not included on the lp due to copyright reason. but still a breath of fresh air into the britrock-britpop scene.

moments to die for : "ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space"
crap moments : not easy listening. some ears (and minds) might not accept this complex record (?)

stone roses : stone roses (1989)

awesome debut. one of the best album of all time. no doubt. john squaire's established himself as one of the premier uk guitarist. ian brown's vocals are good as hell. good example of a band who produced a brilliant debut and went shit. madchester scene's best band. you can sing-a-long. you can dance to it and you can also rock to it...

moments to die for : everything especially the ending of "this is the one"
crap moments : the inclusion of a backward "waterfall", "don't stop", the long windedness of the last 2 songs

q all-time albums rank : 4

uk peak : 19
uk sales : 600,000 (as of 1997)
worldwide sales : 800,000 (as of 1997)

suede : dog man star (1995), trash (single-1996)

dms is one hell of a bleak-pessimistic album about life. dms is also bernard butler's masterpiece before he left. this is pure suede (unlike the happy "coming up"). brett with his bleak, druggy lost-love lyrics. suede is probably the band with the best b-sides. "trash" contains 2 of the best b-sides ever, "europe is our playground" and "another no one". the latter is a song about leaving someone who has treated you bad.. (to find another no one to take the shit that i had or something like that..)

moments to die for : "new generation" (best song ever?), "still life", "another no one"
crap moments : bernard left and richard came (it's not bad afterall, right?)

q all-time albums rank : 35

uk peak : 3
uk sales : 200,000 (as of 1997)
worldwide sales : 500,000 (as of 1997)

u2 : achtung baby (1991)

transition point for the band. there is a fair share of rock and slow tracks and also those dance-like tracks. had a naked larry mullen on the sleeves. bought it right after srp examination. had 3 different versions of vid for "one". album with the sign of a band on a way to change it's image and style. probably the most extreme change in rock.

moments to die for : "ultra-violet", the last true u2 song
crap moments : they changed after this album

q all-time albums rank : 15

uk peak : 2
uk sales : 1.5m (as of 1997)
worldwide sales : 10.0m (as of 1997)

weezer : weezer (1994)

this is not critically acclaimed. maybe because it is so pop. you can definitely shout/sing along all those songs. brian wilson-like chorus with amusing lyrics. totally awesome, no doubt about it. a good companion if you're lonely and needed something to shout at. pop-rock at it's most potent. however, it is strange to note that this album never reached the heights it should have.. 23 weeks on top of the album chart (not!). maybe it's to perfect and funny. happy shout-together.. haha.. man, you gotta check out the killer chorus.. and they words.. "oh-oh ... and you're mary tyler moore"

moments to die for : the first 8 songs kick ass!!!! come people, shout it out!!! and the crazy videos...
crap moments : success eluded them. hopefully river coumo still have the heart to continue. :)

wycelf jean : the carnival (1997)

well, well.. all 3 fugees released solo lps.. with lauryn's getting all the shouts. for me, wycelf jean comes out top. this album is filled up with suprises. full of variety with reggae, caribbean music, dance-hall and rap getting cooked up in one big melting pot. don't expect the usual fugees style here.. lauryn guested, dirty cash (pras) guested. the neville brothers guested.. awesome. great tracks with killer hooks and silly (and serious) ryhmes. and it came out in the time where rap is all about guns and ho's. clef made a difference. the refugee camp made a difference. and he's the only fugee who managed to get bob dylan in his video and dueted with stan, eric, kyle and kenny (you sure he can sing?) . he's being called as a marley wannabe.. well, he is the second coming of marley (i think). and he plays guitar too.

moments to die for : "apocalypse" who is rascopiko? "gone till november", "gunpowder" and everything else.
crap moments : is this the end of the fugeela?

wu-tang clan : wu-tang forever (1997)

in times of sophisticated westcoast/eastcoast rap, mostly about g's and ho's, came a rather cool collective called the wu-tang clan. this is the 2nd album and instead of having an album filled with guns and women, this double-lp is about shaolin kung-fu.... mystical mystical (and also guns and women... ha).. totally back to the roots. the beats are basics, the rapping raw. and when you have ol' dirty bastard, method man and ghostface killa together in one record, it's something not to be missed. this is better than the first classic lp coz this came in the time of master p, puffy and jay-z and still managed to reach no.1 in both us and uk. now, can any other hardcore rap acts get an album to the top of the lp chart in uk? i doubt so. unless you're the rza-manned clan...

moments to die for : "reunited" a killer comeback..
crap moments : some of the songs are without much hooks.. don't stay in yo head for long..
