Weekly Charts...Official Single Release...Other Tunes on the Airwaves...Jolene to Rock March W/ MP
2.09.98
- The album is back up to #36, though its still 2 spaces lower than it was 2 weeks ago. The single "S&C" is standing at #1 on the Modern Rock Chart for the 8th week. On the Mainstream Rock Chart is has moved up 3 spaces to #8. *Sounds of horns* The single has also entered the Top 40 chart, debuting at #37.
- Speaking of singles, the official CD single for "Sex and Candy" will be released on March 24th. The b-sides will be two previously unreleased tunes, "Angel of The Forever Sleep" and "Memphis" (neither of which I have heard, but hear they're pretty damn good).
- Apparently, there are other songs on the album that have been getting airplay. KOME (San Jose, CA) played "St. Joe" 18 times last week. And WRAX (Birmingham, AL) added "Dog and His Master" to their playlist last week, taking 18 spins. And somewhere out in the world of Adult Alternative Radio, "Poppies" was heard.
- Licoln will tour with the boys until March 4, at which time *Jolene* will take over in Boulder, CO, for the remainder of the tour. This is not their first stint together. A little over a year ago, they toured the northeast together. Soon soon Jolene will be releasing an album on Sire.

- The single "S&C" is still holding strong at #1 for the *7th* week in a row on the Billboard Modern Rock chart. However, the album dropped 4 spots to #38.

Charts...Commercial Single
1.27.98
- The album is now *#34* on the Billboard Album Top 200 and "S&C" remains *#1* on the Modern Rock Chart for the SIXTH week in a row. The single moved up to *#12* on the Mainstream Rock Chart.
- Straight from the mouth of Chris Blake: MP will be releasing a commercial single for "Sex and Candy" which will feature "Angel of the Forever Sleep" and "Memphis" and the B-side tracks. Both are previously unreleased *and* unplayed live. So you can't even find them on a bootleg. And from what I hear, both are quite a treat. It is still uncertain as to when it will be released.
Network TV Take II...Next Single...John the Writer
1.24.98
- Program those VCR's. The boys will make their 2nd network television appearance on David Letterman on March 25, 1998.
- Though most people gave loud "boo's" to my sugggestion of "St Joe" as the next single, its looking like those in charge at Capitol agree with me... Don't know when they're going to officially release it, but keep listening.
- As well as being a musician and husband and father, Mr. John Wozniak is also an author. He's apparently working on a fantasy/sci-fi like novel currently titled "Joy to the Fishes." Jeremiah was a bullfrog??
MP - Chart Moguls
1.18.98
- The album is now #42 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. "S&C" is *still* the #1 Modern Rock single in the U.S., for the *5th* week in a row, and #15 on the Mainstream Rock Chart.
- According to Soundscan, the album "Marcy Playground" has s
old 185,000 units. (Not bad considering John's lifetime goal was a measley 10,000 albums) And the list price has gone from $9.98 to $15.98 for a CD. Congrats to everyone who picked up the album for *cheap* before they were rock stars.
- As of January 26, Capitol will start pushing "S&C" on top 40 radio stations. Which means, soon, you'll hear Spice Girls followed by our illustrious well loved musicians.
Check Out The Chart Climbers!
1.12.98
Marcy Playground moved up to #64 this week on the BillBoard Top 200 Albums
Chart. Last week they were at #94. This week marks the 4th week in a row
that
"Sex and Candy" has been at #1 on the Modern Rock Charts. "Sex and Candy"
has
been stuck at #18 on the Mainstream Rock charts for the last two weeks. I'm
still not sure if it is a ranking or not, but MTV lists the "Sex and Candy"
videoat #7 out of 50. Despite all of the good things, "Sex and Candy"
continues to slowly lose chart positions on the Hot 100 Radio Airplay chart
falling again this week to #43.
- From the mouth of Dennis Woods
