The Devlins Drift

Sitting here, eating the first part of my meager dinner (Bowl of Rice Crispies, to be followed by a plain sub roll (mebe with mustard) and a Cherry Ripe for desert) I recount the past week...
It started off decent enough, if not busy busy busy, a pattern of work that seemed to continue throughout the week--new developments in every little thing it seemed.  Too many people getting in trouble, damnit.

I meant to update at least once last week, but it never happened...didn't have too many free nights.  Mig and his wife finally signed separation papers and she came down from Indiana to move all her things...I went over Monday and tuesday to hang out with my friend and had to put up with her childish squabbling and fuming about thigns like lightbulbs, fans, food in the cubbard, etc.  She seemed intent on making the entire process as difficult as possible...despite the fact that it apparently was hurting her too...if she could have taken anything, she took it.  The fact that my presence did nothing to deter her screaming and whining gave me a great deal of insight on her.  In general, I had always thought she was if nothing else, *generally* a nice person..even if she obviously had her moments from what I had previously seen...after this week, I see much clearer the image so many others seem to have garned for greater contact than I had. I feel happy for Mig that he's free of her now...jeesh, almost like hansel and the witch... I also learned a lot about people in general.

I actually got an email out of the blue from a gal about one of the online dating profiles I'd filled out and forgotten about so many months ago.  We've flipped a couple emails back and forth.  She's alright looking-- i didn't spend much time looking at her picture so I really couldn't say too much about that...the emails, I don't know, they seem kind of stale though...Then Saturday as I checked my email real quick b4 leaving, some other woman emailed me about my profile too.  This other one is 28 though...a little too old for my tastes, plus the fact that she wrote such a blasé respond to my ad that she really didn't interest me--her profile reads the same as the email too...

Wednesday night I went over to SSG Wade's house to install various new parts in his computer, a second hard drive, new sound card, etc.  He reimbursed me for my time with a copy of packs of beer ;)  I got home and had a few, ended up staying up till about 0300 (doing I don't even remember what) and missed PT on Thursday because I didn't get out of bed...Past that, I don't really recall Thursday much.  I was gonna do an update that day, got as far as the heading before I decided I wanted to work on my story instead and killed it...

Then Friday I missed PT AGAIN because I was up untill 0200 doing laundry I'd forgotten until the last minute...laundry I needed cuz all my PTs were icky smelly dirty nasty...We had a Brigade Spirit Run that day...ay yi yi...1SG was not at all pleased about that.  He gave me a verbal counseling and let it go at that...SSG Wade has me coming in half an hour early for formation all next week for corrective training...at least it'll be incentive to do some extra situps and pushups--i need to get on that anyway --  PT test in just under three weeks

Friday was interesting...Pay Day activites, Class A uniform and inspection, my legal class (went pretty good...i had a very well prepared outline to use)

I'm almost done with the second course and I'm still ravenous...damn.  I have so little money to last me till payday and I'm too tired of driving to go out to get anything...nor do i have credit cards to use for ordering in...hmmm..wait, no, actually I do have one still that I could use...but i really don't want to put anything on it...best left that way.

Inspection went just fine, no deficiencies. After that Smith and I were pretty much done for the day so I changed into civs...but went back in to attend to a few thigns plus SSG Wade's (now SFC) promotion. SSG Wade had fucked up his computer the night before and I told him after his promotion Friday I'd see if I could  it...despite plans to go out h Mig...i figured it would only take a few minutes and  if it couldn't be done quick, I'd bow out till I had more time...ended up spending three hours out there...grrrr...still not working fully either.  I promised to go back Monday, something I am dreading now...
But finally hooked up with Richard and a SF support friend of his I'd met before...The SF buddy-(ryan)'s wife was coming in from minnesota (few days trip) to take up residence in Mig's house while he was in Korea...so we watched DVD and drank until she called, about two hours late, to tell us she was in Fayetville and needed directions to the house...we decided it would be better to just go find her and lead her...a good idea because she ended up being nowhere near where we thought she said she was...

Anyways, ended up crashing there Friday night.  Mig needed a ride to Huntington, where his friends and family lived, so I was gonna take him out of the goodness of my heart, since summer had taken both her cars (her mother came down and ok one and summer took the other) instead of lettign Rich take one as far as huntington...I walekd into my room Saturday to grab some s and shwoer before leaving with Mig when, lo and behold, some new guy looks up from the empty bed and newly vacated side Beal had taken up...I already got a fuckin roomate, not even a single day to myself.  I'm not surprised and I don't blame him...how could I?  I honestly saw it coming--never got that edgy "single room YES" vibe so... At least he seems cool enough so far...

Made it to Huntington and Mig's friends...nice folks, cute kids.  Mig showed me a little live rock club he used to frequent there...and it seems as though some nimble fingered yahoo lifted my wallet.  Fuck!  It's not the money really--although i did have about fifty bucks, it's all the IDs I hafta replace, the pictures gone forever (including my one and only senior ball picture), the credit cards I gotta cancel, the ATM card...etc.  The band wasn't even all that great.
Rich actually had to lend me money so I could get home today...I'm still holding out though that I simply dropped it or soemthing somewhere in the hosue (although we checked *everywhere*) or someone found  it at the club and turned it in or *something*...Rich is going back to the club to ask tonight...
which brings us full circle -- why I'm broke and eating meager food.  Goodnight.
