ADLER'S APPETITE :
ADLER'S APPETITE E.P.

What, you say you've never heard of this band? Well, you're not the only one. "Adler's Appetite" (originally dubbed "Suki Jones") is the new band featuring original Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler. Along with Steven are some other hardened veterans of the L.A. scene; Keri Kelly on guitars, Robbie Crane on bass, and none other than Jizzy Pearl (AKA King Jizzo) on vox! Basically Steven has put together what could arguably be called the best Gn'R cover band to ever exist. The band tours around playing a set list that is 90% made up of songs from "Appetite For Destruction", with a couple originals added in for fun. I'm not knockin' the boys for doing this, far from it. These songs are too good to never be played live, and if Axel can't get his shit together, then someone has to pick up the slack. I know what you're thinking, "what about Velvet Revolver"? Well, they only tease the crowd with a couple Gn'R songs, and never really quench the thirst of the true die-hard Gn'R fan, so they don't count. So, here we have the band's debut EP, basically released to add an element of legitimacy to the act, to show the world that they are indeed a real band. Now, the reason I personally picked this up was because of the involvement of Mr. Jizzy Pearl. Anyone who has spent any time checking out this site knows that I have a fondness for the band Love/Hate that borders on retardation, so anything with Jizzy on the mic is gonna end up in my collection sooner or later. Now, you would think that my fan-boy leanings towards our featured vocalist would automatically earn any disc he's on a stellar review, and prior to this disc, I would have agreed with you. This six-song EP features four originals and two cover songs (Aerosmith's 1977 classic "Draw The Line" & Thin Lizzy's "Hollywood" from 1981). The originals are pretty straightforward numbers, nothing too thrilling or exciting. Jizzy's trademark raspy vocals are in full swing, and always great to hear, but the songs are pretty lacklustre. The worst offender is the Keri Kelly penned ballad "Empty", this is just so unnecessary and derivative. Probably the two best originals are "99" and "Little Dancer", but even they fail to elevate the disc from average to anything higher. A couple of side notes; Jizzy is now out of the band, and the cover you see above is for the first pressing, anyone who orders the disc now will get the second pressing with a different cover full of multicoloured stars.
