DVD - The Last Pogo

1978, 26 minutes, 16mm colour.
Released Oct. 14 2008
Directed/Produced by Colin Brunton.

Grab some safety pins, practice your sneer and get ready to revisit Toronto’s thriving punk scene. The Last Pogo documents the raucous 1978 punk concert held in Toronto’s legendary Horseshoe Tavern - a night of unhinged music and unbridled mayhem.

On December 1, 1978, legendary Toronto promoters Gary Topp and Gary Cormier – better known as The Garys – presented The Last Pogo, a rollicking, riotous concert at the venerable Horseshoe Tavern, featuring Teenage Head, Viletones, The Ugly, The Mods, The Secrets, The Cardboard Brains and The Scenics.

Special features include: The Scenics circa 1978 and Viletone Chris Haight’s commentary.

17 songs. Recorder in 1977, released in 1996 on Other Peoples Music, Produced by Chris Spedding & Peter Moore from the original 4-track master tapes. 12 page booklet designed by Rodney Bowes, with rare pics and liner notes.

This is the original '77 line up. The notorious Ugly as seen in the Outrage film; pirating the show, throwing flaming guitars at the Viletones, and brawling live on stage with Rockpile promoter John Brower & biker gang security. Total raw energy & short attention span, these 15 originals & 2 covers confirm their turf as the outlaws of the Toronto punk underground. Includes Iggy's "Lust For Life" recorded live at the Horseshoe Tavern on the bill with the Cramps in 1978. They attack rock journalists, pirate other band's stages unannounced, are always in and outta jail, throw flaming guitars at their rivals, and generally misbehave like bikers riding electric guitars while clubs they play burn to the ground. . . .and the fans get pissed on . . & off.
