For those of you
who know Menenth from the occasional wander through the rec.music newsgroups, we'd like to
point out that 'Menenth' is a pseudonym for TWO people, Dave McTiffin (the vinyl junkie
and shop proprietor), and Gary Stevens (the builder of this site, and fellow junkie) .
Don't ask how it ended up that way, it just seemed to evolve.
Incidentally, what's with the name 'Menenth'. Well, we are
very enthusiastic readers of sci-fi and fantasy with a great love of the 'Dragonriders of
Pern' novels by Anne McCaffrey. Menenth is a fictional bronze dragon of our own making (To
be honest, Gary mis-spelt the name of one of the bronze beasts, and the name stuck).
On to the boring biographies. |
Dave (DragonDiscs)
I have been stricken with the record collecting bug for more
than 25 years to date, though I have only really 'freaked out' during the last 8 of those
years. My main interest is centred around the 1954-1970 period, but with a collection
stretching to modern times. I have a particular interest in the London, Harvest, Stiff and
RAK (don't laugh) labels, and a great love of early Rock 'n' Roll and Doo-Wop (though that
doesn't preclude me from also liking Punk, New Wave and the modern Indie Movement).
Several years ago I suffered a rather nasty back injury,
forcing me to join the ranks of the unemployed. Trying to make ends meet while still
continuing with my hobby proved awkward, and so, 1 year ago I took the plunge and opened
up a small secondhand record shop, selling many of my prized recordings in the early days
to keep my head above water. I'm still going. Though, like many people I would like to
make 'loads-a-money', I am quite happy making enough to pay the rent and keep the kitchen
stocked with curry (with enough left over to indulge in my personal collection). Let's
face it, how many people can say their job is also their main hobby.
I always appreciate meeting and talking with all similarly
afflicted souls. If you're in my area, pop in for a chat and a coffee (I promise not to
try and sell you anything). In the meantime, I hope our site will be of interest.
Happy Hunting and Good Listening.
