PERSONAL INSTRUCTION IN NYC
I will be accepting serious students of the 4, 5, & 6 string fretted and fretless bass in the N.Y.City area. You will have a course designed specifically to satisfy your musical goals, and aspirations. In a one to one session, technique, ear training, harmony, improvisation, and overall musicianship are some of the many aspects of this program that will be covered. Study with a professional who has recorded, toured, and lectured all over the world!
This course will be tailored to your specific
needs, and desires. In regard to technique, I have a number of exercises
that will increase your hand strength, and dexterity all over the neck
of your bass. These are not mindless finger exercises, but real musical
examples that will give you the added benefit of improving your ears! I
will include exercises that will develop the third and fourth fingers of
your picking hand, and if you use one, I will also give pointers on using
a pick. I have a number of tips that will help your improvisational
skills, which include chord studies, the proper use of scales, and passing
tones.
Walking lines are discussed, and analyzed. Arpeggios are examined
in a new way to facilitate intervallic awareness all over the neck, whether
you play 4, 5, or 6 string bass.
Reading music is stressed in a graduated way that strengthens sight awareness
with notes, and rhythm patterns. Ear training is taught in a systematic
way. I will give pointers on how to listen to CD’s, and transcribe
lines from them.
My main goal is to make you a better musician...Any
questions you have will be answered and any material you are working on
can be critiqued, and improved upon.
