THE LIBRARY
MY PLEA
If I should win the lottery
Sooooo
When you tour the USA there is no doubt,
First get a map of the USA,
Place the point in St. Louis, Mo.
Still with the point in old St. Lou
Next move your compass to New York City
Circle your compass around just so
Next stick it in L.A. on the other coast.
At last go to Miami, your USA homeland,
Around and around and around it will go
So if it is one of your deepest wishes
But if it is PEOPLE you care to treat,
So come on up to St. Louis MO
Welcome to the library. Come on in and help yourself to a cup of tea,
kick off your shoes and make yourselves comfortable! Now just
sit back and enjoy the poetry. When you leave, don't forget to
sign the
guestbook and vote for your favorite poem while you're there.
or
(Come to St. Louis Because I Can't Come to You)
The Bee Gees I would go to see.
I'd travel to any distant land
To see and hear this marvelous band.
But since that's such a remote possibility
Then you'll just have to come to me.
You must include St. Louis on your route.
The reason is quite clear as you will see.
SO SIT UP STRAIGHT
AND LISTEN TO ME!
The kind you get at the triple A.
Then get a compass from the Wal-Mart store,
The kind you've used in school before.
And the pencil put on old Chicago.
That's a mere six hour drive,
No need for an airplane to arrive.
Draw a circle around, will you.
See all that luscious green and brown?
That's land. That's dirt. That's solid ground.
With PEOPLE living all around.
And what you will see is not so pretty.
With the same distance on the scale
This audience test is sure to fail.
And into the Atlantic it will go.
No people there just water and FISH.
To be left alone is their only wish.
Do you really want to be this host?
It doesn't take brains to be so wise.
You'll be singing to the SHARKS, you guys.
Where you wiggle your toes in the warm wet sand.
And in that warm sand place the pin,
And give the compass one last spin.
From the Atlantic to the Gulf of Mexico.
Filled with more FISH like DOLPHIN and MARLIN.
No one in that water to call you darlin'!
To try to sell tickets to all those FISHES,
And albums and posters and T-shirts too,
Then that is what you must do.
Then a concert in St. Louis would be really neat.
Where the ROBINS sing sweetly
And the wild BARRYS grow.
Where there will be PEOPLE
From the front row to the cheap seats,
With dancin' shoes upon their feets.
