Chapter Eleven: the Rescue (or is it?)
"This is bad," Exi commented.
"Did you ever notice that that is the understatement of the year?" Bomba asked, sitting up.
"We'd better find them, and fast," Munk said. "Until we do, our 'fighting team' is cut in half."
"I didn't know we were a fighting team," Bomba said.
"Neither did I until you guys walked into the Junkyard a while ago," Munk replied.
"Let's go, before it's too late!" Exi urged. The three Jellicles took off running toward the most logical place to look for Macavity's prisoners, his lair.
For some reason, the door was unguarded. It also seemed deserted of rats, when it was usually crawling with them.
Munk led the way inside. The tunnels were deserted.
"I wonder why there aren't any rats..." Bomba said to no one in particular.
"As if I know," Munk replied irritably.
"I wasn't talking to you," Bomba snapped.
"Be quiet!" Exi cautioned. "Mac might hear us." That stopped the arguing immediately.
Soon, they came to a central chamber of Mac's warehouse lair. Piled along the walls were the carcasses of rats killed by the killer bats.
"So that's why there aren't any rats stalking us," Bomba remarked.
"Precisely," Mac replied, appearing in the doorway. "I have a proposition for you. If you help me destroy those evil bats, I'll let your friends go unharmed."
