20000906: Windows 95 Y2K Update
September/2000
|
Summer 2000 computer maintenance - all Windows 95 workstations: Install the April/1999 Windows 95 Y2K update. Obtain this update from Microsoft or from the shop ftp site. Copy W95Y2K.exe to C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS on each workstation. Run the update from that location. You will need to reboot. Unfortunately, the version of the Y2K update distributed on issue 16 of the WSD#1 Backup CDs in April of 1999 did not have this version of the update. Although subsequent versions of the WSD#1 Anti-Virus Installer had the new version of the Y2K Update packaged with it, many workstations in the Division do not yet have this update installed. To run this update without the automatic Internet download of MSIE 4.01SP1, use the following command line switches: w95y2k.exe /C:"y2ksetup /ii"However, you should upgrade the system to at least Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 2, including the Desktop Update. See Tech Note #7 for more information. Note: Windows 9x workstations which have had the most recent version of the WSD1 Anti-Virus Installer/Updater run already have W95Y2K.EXE installed. |
