John Sheridan and Catherine Carey
John Sheridan was born in 1795 Ireland and he
died 1873 in Castleton, Vermont, at 78 years of age. He is buried in Calvary Catholic
Cemetery, Rutland Vermont. He married twice. His first wife's name is unknown at this
time. John's second wife was Catherine Carey. John and Catherine
emigrated to American in 1850.
He married Catherine, age 16, in Castletown, Co Tipperary, Ireland, on November 1, 1836. Catherine was born in 1820
Ballycarridoge, Co. Tipperary, Ireland. Both the townlands of Castletown and Ballcarridoge
are in the parish of Castletown-arra. Catherine was the
daughter of James Carey; her mother's name is unknown at this time. Catherine died April
1900 in Rutland, Vermont, at 79 years of age. She is buried in Calvary Catholic Cemetery,
Rutland Vermont.
As John got older and weaker, he and Catherine
relied upon their son Timothy's wages to help support them.
After Timothy died in 1870, Catherine applied for his Civil War pension. Unfortunately the
pension was denied. Among the pages of testimony, Catherine describes that the small farm
house in Castleton was burned to the ground. She states "I was obliged to move from
Castleton, VT to Center Rutland, VT because my home was destroyed by fire. And all papers
and letters were burned in that fire. And I am greatly dependent on my daughters [Catherine] charity for my support."

following assets:
9 acres of tilled land, value of farm & buildings $400, value of livestock $75, cost
of building repairs $20, cost of farm wages $30, 1 cow, 1 calf, butter produced 60 lbs., 6
poultry, 9 bushels oats, 31 gallons maple molasses, 20 bushels potatoes, 15 apple trees,
but doesn't say that they produced anything.
John Sheridan and 1st wife, name is unknown,

- Honora "Anora"
Sheridan 1843-1930 married Matthew Fox
- Timothy Sheridan was
born in Ireland 1846. He was twin to Nancy "Anne". In 1860 he worked as a farm
laborer for Henry Bates in Castleton. Timothy died 1870 in Castleton, Vermont, at 24 years
of age. His is buried in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Rutland Vermont. Timothy's occupation:
Worked on rail road tracks.

Sheridan 1846-1888 married John Wilkinson
- Margaret Sheridan was born in Ira, Vermont 1855.
Margaret died of smallpox 1869 in Castleton, Vermont, at 14 years of age. Her body was
interred in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Rutland Vermont.
- James E. Sheridan was born in Castleton, Vermont
April 27, 1856. He died March 1929 in Rutland, Vermont, at 72 years of age. He
married Mary E. Hammel 1860-1938 in Rutland on November 6, 1898. They had no children.
- Catherine Elizabeth
