| Glossary Abhimantrit 
    Doing "Abhimantrit" is a process in which some food, cooked or uncooked, or
    money is kept in an utensil with a full pot, small not very big, of water. Then by taking
    a little water in hand and circling the food or money three times with a short prayer
    according to the occasion it is offered to whosoever is to be given. Now that food or
    money is called Abhimantrit and and cannot be consumed by the person who has taken it out.
    This goes to the person in whose name it is taken out. This process is done for donations
    too. 
    Airavat 
    Airavat is one of the 14 Ratnas (Gems) coming out of the Ksheer Sagar Manthan when
    Dev and Asur churned the sea to get Ambrosia (Amrit). 
    Avatar 
    Avatar is the Incarnation of God or gods on this earth to come for some purpose. After
    fulfilling the purpose, the Incarnation goes away to Heaven. It is believed in Hindu
    Religion that Avatars do not take birth like normal birth, they just appear and disappear
    from the Earth. 
    Baayana 
    Baayana is something which is kept separately after doing it "Abhimantrit". It
    is normally given to any person in the in-law's house, except husband and wife of
    husband's younger brother, (because she receives Baayana from her). In an in-law's house
    all people are higher in status to Bahu. Saas (mother of the husband), nanad (sister of
    the husband) and her husband and their children, devar (husband's younger brother), jeth
    (husband's elder brother) and his wife and their children - not his son's wife because she
    can give her Baayana to her, mama/mami and their children, chacha/chachi and their
    children, bua and phoopha and their children etc. 
    Bhrigu (Maharishi) 
    Son of Varuna, the wind god. He is devoted to learning. 
    Dakshinaa 
    Dakshinaa is something which is given to a Brahmin after he has performed any kind of
    activity in a Vaishya's or Kshatriya's house. This "something" can be a small
    amount of money, or a large sum, and not only money, it may be cloth, clothes, silver,
    gold, cattle or just anything. And there is no limit of that too. (see also Guru
    Dakshinaa) 
    Dhanvantari 
    Dhanvantari is one of the 14 Ratna coming out of the Ksheer Sagar Manthan when
    Dev and Asur churned the sea to get Ambrosia (Amrit). He was appointed as Devas Vaidya
    (doctor) since he knew all kinds of medicines. He is the father of Indian
    Aayurveda. 
    Guru Dakshinaa 
    It is also a kind of Dakshinaa, but given to Guru only after a child finishes his education
    and goes back to home. Without paying Guru Dakshina education is not complete. It was long
    time ago, when these modern schools were not there, and boys used to go to Gurukul (Guru's
    place) for learning. They used to live their up till they finished their education. Guru
    Patnee (wife of Guru) used to prepare food for them and take care of them. Guru
    Dakshinaa
    was not given at the will of the student, but was given at the will of the Guru.
    Bhagvaan Krishna searched His Guru's lost son in the form of Guru Dakshinaa. 
    Kalp Vriksha 
    Kalp Vriksha (tree) is one of the 14 Ratna coming out of the Ksheer Saagar Manthan when
    Dev and Asur churned the sea to get Ambrosia (Amrit). This tree was planted in
    Dev's city. It never dries up and can give whatever Dev want. 
    Kaamdhenu 
    Kaamdhenu (Kaam means desire and Dhenu means cow, so Kaamdhenu means a cow
    which fulfills all desires) is one of the 14 Ratna coming out of the Ksheer
    Saagar Manthan
    when Dev and Asur churned the sea to get Ambrosia (Amrit). This cow was given
    to Rishi to serve them with plenty of milk and to fulfill their other daily needs. 
    Ksheer Saagar 
    Ksheer Saagar is the milky sea in which Lord Vishnu is said to be resting on the bed of Shesh
    Naag with Lakshmee Jee sitting at their feet massaging His feet. 
    Lakshmee Jee 
    She was also one of the 14 Ratna coming out of the Ksheer Saagar Manthan when
    Dev and Asur churned the sea to get Lakshmee Jee and Ambrosia. She selected lord Vishnu as her
    husband as she came out of the Sea. 
    Shesh Naag Jee 
    It is believed that Shesh Naag Jee has one hundred heads and is very large. Lord Vishnu
    rests on him in Ksheer Saagar and Lakshmee Jee caresses His feet. It is also believed that
    He is at the base of this Prithvi (Earth), otherwise it could not have stayed at
    its place. 
    Yagyopaveet 
    Yagyopaveet is a round garland type, made up of a few sacred threads. It is given at the
    time of Yagyopaveet Samskaar, when a boy enters in adulthood. It is mandatory to wear for
    Brahmin, Kshatriya and Vaishya, but at the same time has some rules to follow. It is
    worn over the right shoulder, under the left shoulder and should not reach lower than
    groins. If the person is unable to follow the rules, he may opt not to wear it. But
    Samskaar has to be performed. 
    Yug 
    According to Hindu Religion Yuga is a measurement of time. There are four
    Yug: Sat Yug,
    Tretaa Yug, Dwaapar Yug and Kali Yug. All have different number of years to make up.
    Kali Yug is the shortest one. Double the number of years of Kali Yug are in Dwaapar
    Yug, double the number of years of Dwaapar Yug are in Tretaa Yug, and double the number
    of the years of Tretaa Yug are in Sat Yug.
