Once a long time ago, many ages in fact, there were different factions of humans spread across this expansive universe. They were like us in every way, except, here there was magic; the roots of these civilizations were connected by a great magical link, this was so of all humans and the small worlds that they inhabited. On every G-type star there was a faction with it's own initial colour. Maurvis-Prime, for example, is where the browns resided; here all the humans have brown eyes. No other can reside on Maurvis-prime, or so it is written, because it is against the traditions of countless generations. The factions like to keep to themselves or so it has been for the longest time, but because not all of the planets have everything they need to survive some trading does occur. Only through the distances of space will the factions see each other. This is the story of how all humans came to Earth and Centauri, as well the destruction of the empires of these factions.
It started so simply, a drought on Trarva-7, home of the Violets. Julian O'Malley, the Emperor of the High began the task of rationing water. This was sufficient for a while, but after twenty years of no rain, riots formed, and the citizens mauled palace guards to get answers from their Emperor. Little did anyone realize that in the neighboring system, Lazarus-9 (Albinos) Grover Allis was having similar problems.
Being from a proud people, Julian nor Grover would not ask for or give help to another faction. The droughts melted the northern glaciers of Trarva and Lazarus, which in turn caused serve flooding in the lower regions. These regions soon had plagues of locusts, flies, and malaria spreading through towns, villages, and eventually the cities. Unfortunately their cries were over looked as the cargo ships passed by, even after both Julian and Grover began to beg for help.
They were seen as inferior to others; unworthy of help at all; too proud is what I call it. The Violets and the Albinos were quickly dying and the only response to their cries was the summons from the Brown?s Prime Minister calling for the perpetrators of her own planet?s demise. She was prepared to go to war with peoples who were already dying. There was no trust?
?With the onset of war, genocide among the people, and mass destruction one person asked the Browns to back down on the threats to extinguish the Violets and Albinos, that person was I, Sydney Cole of the Blue. I tried in vain to knock some sense into the Prime Minister of Maurvis, but she wouldn't listen. Some how, neither would any of the others give their aid. All of the others denied that they were involved or the cause of the disturbances.
So, what was causing all G-type stars to go crazy? Why was it that no one wanted to admit to a greater good? Except I, Sydney Cole?
So, I tried and sent messages out to all the leaders on the countless planets, to ask that they come to a great meeting on Earatawa*, a lifeless planet where we could discuss a solution in peace. I hoped that this could not only bring help to my planet of Caldiva-Theta, but to the others as well. There was a disease spreading rampant across the plains and the tides no longer were at the correct intervals; animals dying, food sparse, there was chaos running all over Caldiva-Theta.
At this meeting, I was supposed to tell of the discovery of a mighty black hole-like object near Trarva-7 and Lazarus-9. I discovered this through a telepathic link to my professor on how to find truffles without the use of pigs, something we on Caldiva-Theta had little of. Anyway, I called this black hole, the Great Divide. Now, I was not very technical, but what I could gather from my sentry patrols along our borders there was a link between the tidal drifts and this Divide. It seemed that the geo-forces of Caldiva-Theta and the others as well, fed into the Divides inner core.
I tried to get help from Nadella-4 (Greens) and Omicron Ceres (Whites) but they were quite unwilling to help. It was believed that a telepathic link could aid in the destruction of the Divide, but I had no real proof that a link could or even would work. If we all were able to come together one would assume that we could beat it, right? But the only thing I managed to do was to aggravate the Browns and make everyone else nervous. The Prime Minister of Maurvis was now bent on destroying Nedella-4 and Omicron Ceres, after her blood lust for Trarva and Lazarus. She looked through the tele-screen at me, eyes burning, screaming, "No chance will I ever help those servile beasts!"
Soon Trarva-7 and Lazarus-9 lost control over everything, the Divide sucked their resources dry and now they just waited for the inevitable; they died quietly. While the others began the greatest war the universe has ever experienced, but all against each other. With the technological and magical tendencies of the different factions it was the Fourth of July celebration to beat all. And it did...
...Nuclear missiles laced with juniper took out whole cities. 'The Powdered Death,' a small bomb with a poison made of wolfsbane embedded into the sides could kill thousands upon impact. The whole universe was going up in smoke and I; Sydney sat there watching with the Grey, the only person to see what I saw. Clarke Reilly and I could do nothing. We sat and watched until I couldn't stand it any more, we were on the Seventh Brigade observation lounge and I lunged at an ensign. Clarke grabbed me; I choked back tears that had formed around my blue eyes. I?could do nothing...
I was so angry; my world was dying and there was nothing I could do but let my fist hit the nearest wall. All I could think of was how it was going to hurt. To my surprise my fist went right through, through solid titanium. I pulled out my hand; it was this disgusting greyish colour. Behind me I heard Clarke's laughter, he looked at me and then at my hand and pointed to it all the while laughing like a schoolboy. In the center of the wall were our hands, not just two hands but one hand much larger than normal, one hand in one hole. Somehow through our anger we 'merge' to form a much powerful unit.
The possibilities were endless with such an idea. The power behind such a blow would certainly knock anyone off his or her feet. Of course we had to try again with more concentration, which led to both of us walking through the wall to the corridor. We only succeeded in doing this at short bursts, which left us drained afterwards. So, how could this be used to counteract the Divide?
We could use "binding" (as it became known as) in the war against the Divide. Of course it took time to fully develop it?
Sometime later?Today was the day; we had almost lost four million of our people in this stupid war. So, Clarke and I took the last two million of the Blue and Grey and with all our anger, we tried a mass binding. A bright flash of light resounded, it was a greyish blue and after that the universe grew silent...
...A faint rustling of wind came out from the myst. And from the light emerged a swarm of people, one million bodies echoing two million minds with a multitude of abilities. One million Blue-Grey individuals that sought the end of the Divide, they didn't care what it was but they knew nothing would stop them now. Like mighty titans they bombarded the empty mass of the Divide with balls of light; it was like ten million super novas. They filled the Divide's massive core with light until it turned into a new sun where a previous one had not existed.
Unfortunately for the Blue-Grey, as they now called themselves there was no one else alive after the Divide was gone. The only possible hospitable planets to live on were a scrubby little planet called Earatawa and a neighboring planet termed, Satellite-3 of the Centauri system.
To the Blue-Grey?s surprise it was here that they found other humans living untouched by the Divide's destruction. They were all living in relative peace with each other, all factions, together.
The sadness that came over the Blue-Grey was great; the only thing to do was to integrate themselves into the communities of these humans that were left. But since these didn't realize there was nothing left, it was decided that they would never know. There would be too many questions with no answers. They had no technology, magic, and no way to leave the planet. So, all that the Blue-Grey had to do was too more or less watch over them.
And what of the Blue-Grey? Well Sydney Cole, as she was called of the Blue, was now Sydney Clarke of the Blue-Grey, I think you can figure out how that one happened. Also Sydney didn't like knowing that in a millennia there might not be humans around at all.. She created the council for the Integration. They would watch over all on Earatawa and Satellite-3, but they could not intermingle. It would be wrong to intercede with their lives, but the watching was always done.
Every generation the Blue-Grey send down ten individuals to live and watch the humans and after a life they would "die" and return to arrange the next group. That is how the watch came to be.
*The one colony, Earatawa was later named Earth.
