Red Licorice, The Miracle Cure

Once, my father told me that red licorice would always make a person feel better. It was the miracle cure for the blues. If a person was mad or even sad, just give him a piece of red licorice, no matter what age. They would feel better. It always works, 105% guaranteed. They story of Michael proves that red licorice really does cures the blues.

One day, Michael was sitting in the park, swinging on one of the swings. He had just finished a baseball game with his friends. It hadn?t gone all that wee. The day had been horrible; Michael?s best friend, Billy was sick and couldn?t play. Then he had had a fight with Greg, who stormed off the field, refusing to pitch the game. He was also mad that he struck out three times and felt he lost the game, because Maddie yelled at him. It didn?t make sense, because he yelled back that he hated her. It had been a bad day.

Now, Michael was alone at the park with nobody and was really sad, lonely, and even confused. He couldn?t figure out why such a good day went so bad.

Suddenly Michael saw a shadow behind him. He turned around and saw Maddie. She stood there in her dust-covered tee-shirt smiling at him. She came over and sat down next to him. ?I?m sorry, Mike. I shouldn?t have yelled. Can you forgive me??

Michael looked at Maddie, ?That?s okay, I guess it was just a bad day. I accept!?

?Hey Mike, you want some red licorice? My dad gave it to me, he says it makes you feel better, when you are sad.?

?Sure,? said Michael. So the two friends sat there and ate red licorice. They talked about the next game and how the Maulers would be sorry. They also planned to go see Billy that afternoon. Maybe they would bring him some red licorice, he could use some cheering up. So, the day wasn?t as bad as Michael had thought. So, the two friends sat there on the swings laughing and munching on red licorice.

True story, honest. Try it for yourself, it works!

After a while, I started to write children's stories, and in that process I came up with this story, taken from my childhood.
