This site was created for those searching the area of middle Tennessee
for details on their heritage. Only the last names are listed on the
pages. The oldest birth and death dates (found) in each plot are also listed.
My information comes from cemeteries which I visit and record before time or construction destroys them completely. My time is limited, so I only gather the last names and approximate number in a given ground.
Many smaller cemeteries have disappeared, while others may be so neglected that gathering information is practically useless. Countless cemeteries need repair and maintenance and through lack of funds and interest, gradually become all but nonexistant. Many stones are old and illegible. In many cases, stone slabs are all that remain.
Keep in mind that while it is legal to explore cemetery grounds, many of the locals will call the police if they see you. My rule of thumb is to stay no longer than twenty minutes, and carry a writing pad with you which should give a hint why you are there. If questioned by anyone, keep a name in mind to give a quick answer. Most people are fearful of vandalism and with good reason. If they know you are there for honest reasons, most will not pursue any further confrontation.
This information is centered around the southern, middle Tennessee counties of Williamson, Rutherford, Wilson, Dickson, Lawrence, Maury, Cannon, Davidson, Giles, Marshall, Franklin, Moore, and Lincoln

Use the search function on your tool bar in searching for your desired names. Each cemetery is tagged with a status code which follows.
acc - is the access and ease in getting to the location. 10 is the highest, and 1 is the lowest. Lower ratings indicate cemeteries that are hard to get to due to remote locations and road conditions. PP denotes that the cemetery is on private property.
cap - capacity. This is an estimation of the burial plots, thus indicating the size of the grounds. If there are more than ten plots of the same last name a + sign is designated. twenty ++, thirty or more +++
main - maintenance and upkeep
scen - scenic factor - a high rating indicates a plot within beautiful surroundings.
rem - remote - indicates the nearby population or buildings, or its distance from a road
view - high rating - cemetery is easily seen from the road. Low rating - cemetery is hidden
int - interest rating. This is my own personal rating I give a cemetery. It is a general overall rating which includes, historic significance, attractiveness, atmosphere, needing further research - etc
death - I record the earliest death dates that I can find in the graveyard - or - any person that died before 1850.
int>> - items of interest on the grounds, such as a large row of trees, stone box graves, interesting inscriptions on stones - etc.
other notes - - (i) - infant grave, (s) single name - - - 'n/o' means north of / 's/o' means south of and so on
