Mike Micallef received his first Tai Chi lessons in 1989 under Mario Borg, a nationally famous Kung Fu expert who is also a Peking trained Tai Chi instructor. In 1991 he completed a four month course in the Tai Chi Chuan Long Form under Master Yang Chen Wei, then living in Malta.

In 1993 organised a three month course for the residents of San Blas Drug Rehabilitation Centre run by Caritas.

In 1994 he received intensive training in the Tai Chi Sword Form and the National Standard Tai Chi Chuan at the Corradino Mediterranean Traditional Chinese Medicine Centre.

In 1995 organised a three month course for the residents of the Therapeutic Community of Santa Maria at Luqa, run by Sedqa.

In 1999 he was a TV host on a popular morning programme demonstrating Tai Chi moves  and lecturing on Traditional Chinese Medicine.

In February of 2001 he was accepted as a student for an intensive course in  Acupuncture and Moxibustion sponsored by the Nanching University of TCM and run by the Mediterranean Regional Centre for TCM at Corradino. On completion of this course and after several months of clinical practice he is now practicing  acupuncture and moxibustion thus becoming  the first Maltese citizen to practice acupuncture in Malta.
