G

Games of Skill and Chance (PG) by Snowballjane. Snape's last term teaching, after the war is over, and he has to adjust. And then a bunch of kids start a games club in his potions classroom. Redemptive, in a reasonable and non-sappy way. One shot.

A Gutter Rat's Tale (R) by Minnionette. Canon James/Lily, but otherwise pure gen. The tale of how a gutter rat was adopted into the Potter family and christened Severus Snape, and his further adventures. Not OotP-compliant, of course, but quite well plotted and thought out. Novel length.

H

Hair (G?) by Dana. In which we learn about why Snape's hair is greasy, and what he eventually does about it. Cute. One shot.

The Hall of Heroes (PG-13) by Pavonis. Severus comes to his final resting place, which is not what anyone expected. Cool concept and great characterization. One shot.

Hamartia (PG-13) by Scela Letifer. One mention of het right at the beginning. This fic features Twisted!Dumbledore's intricate schemes as well as what eventually becomes of them. Nice writing. One shot.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Dark Lord (PG) by After the Rain. The Dark Lord demands that the Death Eaters celebrate his birthday. Hilarious, and if you get to the end you'll even see that it's somewhat IC. One shot.

Harry Potter and the Book Wyrm (PG) by Jelsemium. It's a missing moment adventure set during Christmas in PoA; Harry falls through a door in the library invisible to everyone but him. Sweet. Two chapters.

Harry Potter and the Legacy of the Light (PG-13) by Gramarye. This fic crosses Harry Potter with The Dark is Rising and does an admirable job of living up to that challenge. Basically, it turns out that Voldemort threw his lot in with the Dark. Harry and five friends must fight against him with the help of Will Stanton, the last Old One and professor at Cambridge. Very well thought out and very well executed. Novel length fic, and be sure to read the short prequel as well.

Harry Potter and the Way it Never Was (PG?) by bluemoony. Mostly gen. What if Tom Senior hadn't left his wife and child? An irreverent take on the results, and how everyone's lives would have been altered. One shot.

Harry Potter's Divination Homework (G) by Tess3. Harry predicts what's going to happen to him over the next month. Amusing. First chapter is Harry's homework; second is the graded version.

Heart Stopped Breathing (PG-13?) by durendal. The main text is a simple account of Ron buying the Sneakoscope in Egypt, but a very different story is going on between the parentheses. Disturbing, in a good way. One shot. The Remix, written by Iosselen and rated PG, turns this story inside out, and the last line is a kicker.

Heat (PG) by Shadow Phantom. The AC breaks at the Dursley's, and Harry goes a bit nuts. Short one shot.

Helga fell out of the Muggle world (PG-13?) by Antonia East. Helga Hufflepuff is accused of witchcraft. One shot.

Hello Darkness (PG-13?) by ladyjaida and copperbadge. Includes snogging, and may end up R/S. A MWPP-era fic in which Remus is spineless, Sirius is histrionic, Lily has a weight problem, James is a stalker, Peter's everyone's best friend, and Severus Snape is the most well-adjusted of the lot. It's lots of fun. Chapter 3, the 'WPP finds out Moony is a werewolf' chapter, is worth reccing all by itself. Turns fanon on its head and has fun characterizations. Chaptered, WIP.

ho for hoggwarts! (G?) by Alice Dryden. From what I understand, this is a crossover with a children's series about a child named Nigel Molesworth (?). I've never heard of it, but this fic is still hilarious. Nigel's poorly spelled adventures at Hogwarts. Short chapters.

Hocus-Pocus (G) by rinsbane. A new boy comes to the orphanage. Creepy. One shot.

Hogwarts: A Hauntin' (G) by Manraviel. A bartender warns a girl about a haunted castle nearby. Cute. Short one shot.

The Hogwarts Fanfiction Academy (PG) presided over by Meir Brin. Includes insane fangirl crushing. This is very, very meta. Bad fanfiction writers are whisked away to Hogwarts, where they are forced to learn to write correctly. It's the HP version of The Official Fanfiction University of Middle-earth. Novel length. It also has a sequel in the works, called In the Keeping of HFA, a WIP.

Imprisoned (PG-13?) by DarkWitch. Sirius' reactions to his return to Grimmauld place. DarkWitch really pegs Sirius and what he must have been feeling at the time. One shot.

In Another Season (PG) by Sam Vimes. Maybe R/S if you squint, but I think it's pure gen. Remus turns away from the Order after the First War, and then turns back for the Second. I like this Remus, and am intrigued by Young!Timid!Severus. One shot.

In Blood Only (M) by E.M. Snape. It's a Severitus fic, so of course there's past Snape/Lily, and there's also some Harry/Tonks and a few other minor het ships, though you can happily ignore them if you like. Harry finds out that Snape is his father, and gets drawn into various intrigues and revenge schemes. AU, novel length WIP, nearly finished.

June Week (PG-13) by Alchemine. Warning for rape, and there's some het crushing. Minerva McGonagall at Hogwarts, with lots of Tom Riddle and Albus Dumbledore. An excellent, well plotted and characterized fic. Novel length. Its prequels and sequels are also highly recommended: they can be found here, at Alchemine's author page.

The Language that God Speaks (PG-13) by Liz Barr. Hints of R/Hr and what might be Snape/Lily if you squint. It's a crossover with Sandman, but you should be able to follow it even if you haven't read those novels. Hermione finds notes for an experimental potion allowing one to access the Dreaming. Hermione, Snape. One shot. There's also a one shot remix here that has a teeny bit more Snape/Lily.

The Last Wyvern (G) by Essy. The Last Wyvern is a fable told by the four founders in an attempt to direct the attentions of their students. Each founder ended the tale at a different point with a different moral and all four versions are recorded here as they appear on page 1267 of Hogwarts: A History. The last story is the best one :). One shot.

The Legacy of Slytherin Sequence (G to PG-13) by Angie Astravic. Lion's Mouth, Snake's Bite (R?) by Kat and Tzigane, I think. Pure gen, other than an offhand reference to Narcissa's infidelities. Draco brings home a chimera and Lucius lets him keep it. Cute, without betraying Lucius' Malfoy-ness, and it gets a bit graphic toward the end. One shot.

The Heidelberg Harriers, "fiercer than a dragon and twice as clever," versus the all-witch Holyhead Harpies, founded in 1203. It was just another Quidditch game... but it became legend. M

Mad Dogs and Englishmen (PG-13) by bruno. A young Death Eater takes on the task of burying a former colleague. Post-war. One shot.

The Man Who Lived (PG-13?) by Beth H. Whoa. Just.. whoa. It's in second person, from Snape's POV as the good guys prepare to defeat Voldemort. The ending is awesome, and Snape is very IC. One shot. The remix, rated PG, can be found here. Written by Donna Immaculata, it does a wonderful job of reinterpreting this fic in light of OotP revelations.

The Man Who Won November (PG-13) by bruno. There's a little sex, though it's not shippy. A young wizard wins an interesting game of poker. This is an all-around excellent fic and story. Chaptered.
