BUSINESS LETTERS & PERSUASSIVE ESSAYS

Introduction // Student Work // Photos // Lesson Handouts

Introduction

Business Letters: At the beginning of the unit, the students were shown how to write business letters. We composed the main part of the letter as a class but the students were able to personalize the beginning of it. We were writing these letters to various Chambers of Commerce in the Southern States requesting information about that state. Each student typed their own letter using Microsoft Word. They then addressed their letter and envelope with a list of addresses I provided. After only a little less than two weeks the first responses came in and the students were very excited!

Persuasive Essay: At the end of the Southern States portion of the unit, students used the information that they had gathered for the Power Point and created a persuasive essay. Students were given examples of persuasive essays, a graphic organizer, and a checklist. After completing the graphic organizer and checklist students were able to type their persuasive essay in Microsoft Word.
