What a pretty, peaceful sight!
We broke all Charlotte area records for snowfall, with nearly 24" measured in 3 storms in just one week. Our annual snowfall usually averages only 3", and the previous year there had been no measureable snow at all.
We barely even recognized parts of the property when surveying the damage. I would have cried if it hadn't been so beautiful and surreal, all covered in that sparkling, heavy, white blanket. When the snow melted off the trees, the beauty quickly disappeared and reality set in. These pictures show the davastation of our beautiful property - probably at least 100 trees have been lost. Some giant trees that were only weighed down in these pictures, later split in quarters all the way down their trunks froom treetop to roots. The huge quarters then fell over and laid on the ground pointing in different directions.
There was some joy in this tragedy though, The pets had the time of their lives playing in the deep snow. Cody made a conscious effort to make it all disappear, by eating it - ALL of it! Even the cats had a blast, taking giant leaps in the dogs' trails, just to get through it. When we tracked snow in on our boots, Cody and TJ rushed to eat it before the other had time to notice. All were exhausted when bedtime rolled around! Although we lost our electric power and water for 3 days, we were well prepared and fared well. I'm sure we'll never forget that long January blizzard week, or the long year of lumberjack work that followed.
