anomie

scales of war

the scales of war are weighed
death is a one-way street

and there are tonnes of metal falling
over the land today

they fall during the day
and the sky is a leaden, nonjudgemental grey
they fall during the night
and the sparks lick up in flames
orange sick flickering light
eating charred children
hungry to touch the face of heaven

the action unfolds
the weapons disgorged to the sounds of death
unaccompanied by the sirens that
wail across the border when a window breaks

the scales of war are weighed
macabre seesaw welded in the palm of your hand
a mountain of twisted metal against a bloody feather

and justice is not blind, she's gloating
justice is an earless bitch
with zipped lips
all agog
feasting her eyes on sightless eyes
fattening on sighs
and bloating on screams

she watches with folded arms
wearing a white jacket and a yellow smile
fixed smile
the implacable will of the wielder of power
the definer

she thinks she has it
has closed upon it
clenched into a fist of ambition
of victory
