Carter Center
This nonprofit, nonpartison public policy institute was formed in 1982 by Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter in Atlanta Georgia. It is a separately chartered and independently governed member of Emory University It is dedicated to fighting disease, hunger, poverty, conflict, and oppression through collaborative initiatives in the areas of democratization and development, global health and urban revitalization. Projects include observations of Chinese local elections. Other sections include speeches, trips, reports, human rights, and educational development.
Group of 77

International Monetary Fund (IMF)

United Nations (UN) in China

United Nations Development Programme(UNDP)

Established in 1944 at the UN Monetary and Financial Conference in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Developement (aka World Bank) makes loans to developing countries with money generally raised on the world's financial markets. World Health Organization (WHO)

World Trade Organization (WTO, formerly GATT)
Located in Geneva, Switzerland, the WTO succeeded the GATT in 1995 as a result of the Uruguay Round negotiations (1986-94). There are 134 members as of February 1999 with China as an applicant. The WTO administers trade agreements, conducts trade negotiations, mediates trade disputes, monitors trade policies, and provides technical assistance to developing countries.
