Archery has been an Olympic sport since 1900. In 1920 however archery dissapeared an didn't come back until 1972. Archery was very popular before it's disappearance and remains popular today.To participate in archery an athlete needs: steady hands, strong shoulders, flexible muscles, sharp eyes and nerves of steel. An arrow can travel more than 240 k/hr! Commonly used are a recurve bow coated in fibreglass, and arrows that are made from aluminium and carbon graphite.
There are four events in archery. There are both teams and individual events. The diameter of the target is 1.22 meters. Targets are 70 meters away and look very small to the athletes.
While Canadians have participated in Arhcery they have not yet won an Olympic medal.
