Football became an Olympic sport in 1900, and was one of the first team sports to be included in the games. It celebrated its 100 year anniversary at the Sydney games.In 1996 Football was introduced as a Womens sport. The first game attracted a world record crowd for a Women's sport of 76,000 people.
There are two Olympic football events: one for Men and one for Women. Starting in Athens this year there will be 10 Womens teams and 16 Mens teams participating. The people on the Mens team are all under the age of 23 with the exception of 3 overage people. They are allowed to be professionals. On the Womens team people over the age of 16 are allowed to play.
Canada has won no Olympic medals in the sport of football.
