.......Microeconomics.......EXTRA CREDIT.......

There are eight extra credit questions in this course. They are worth one point each. Any points you earn will be added to your final exam score. Your extra credit work should be printed out and submitted at the end of the course.

In addition to the extra credit questions, each student may choose to prepare a Wall Street Journal project. This will involve quite a bit of work, but will count as either 20% or 40% of your course grade, depending on which grading option you choose. Refer to the syllabus for a more detailed explanation of the various grading options. Guidelines for this project are as follows:

  1. Each student will select twenty articles (forty articles for the all online grading option) for this project. If you have an online subscription, click on the link that says Commodities Market. You may also go back up to sixty days using the WSJ online archives. Choose commodities market articles that allow you to shift either the demand curve or the supply curve to the right or left. For each articles you choose, provide a brief summary of the article (about 100 words) and indicate the shift you would make, and why. Include a sketch graph that illustrates your supply or demand curve shift. You will receive more information about this project in an upcoming email.
  2. Make sure you submit the necessary number of summaries. A five-point deduction will be taken for each missing article.
  3. Your project should be word processed. Allow some extra space after each summary so you can include your supply and demand sketch graph or you can do your graphs separately and attach them to your summaries. In that case, make sure it is clear as to which graph accompanies which summary. Print out your summaries and turn them in at the end of the course. Please Use a font size of either twelve or fourteen and double-space.
  4. You do not need to include photocopies of the articles you select. Just turn in your summaries.
  5. As you noticed earlier when you clicked on extra credit and read through the material, both print and online student subscriptions to the Journal are available at various rates and lengths. Call the WSJ at either 1-800-975-8602 or 1-800-369-2834 or go to wsj.com/student for further information on the different options.
  6. Send your instructor an email if you have any questions about this project.
