DECISION
When I was fourteen, I decided to be a computer programmer. Apparently,
the future seemed very bright and clear to me. Now things are changing;
instead of working by hand, people are using computer technology skills.
A good computer programmer makes good money and computers make a job
easier.
One reason I want to be a programmer is to make
good money. Before I graduate, I could have a chance to work as a
computer programmer for any company. Right now, most companies are
hiring computer programmers and paying good money. Computer programmers
earn from 70 up to 90 thousand dollars a year. Computers help you to get
a better job, a better future and better money.
Another important reason for my decision is
that computers make a job easier. Computers help people to find many
things, like on Internet, a very important use of the computer. Anybody
easily can find the news, an advertisement and search for anything. In
addition, computers can save files and documents for personal use. Now
computers are very easy to use and find, so people can easily learn how
to use them.
In conclusion, I want to make a good point
about my decision to major in computer programming. I want to make my
family and myself happy. Getting a computer programming degree is not
easy, so I have to work hard to make it. I hope I will graduate, and I
will have a good chance to get a job.

ETHIOPIAN CULTURE
Ethiopia is the oldest independent country in Africa. This country has
the largest population and cultural background. Many tourists from
different parts of the world like Ethiopian culture. A student who takes
an ethnic studies course about Ethiopian culture may learn about
Ethiopian family life, religious festivals, courtship and marriage.
Ethiopian families are very strong and tend to
be large with the work divided among mothers, fathers and children.
Fathers usually tend the field whereas women work in their home
compounds where they make nearly all the food and clothing for their
families. With improved education and employment opportunities, family
size may be reduced. In some cities or provinces in Ethiopia, it may be
common for women to participate in the paid work force. Servants and
extended family would be used to look after children. People may also
belong to larger social groups, which have particular significance for
ceremonies and rituals associated with marriage and burial. Weddings and
funerals are extremely important ceremonies with large numbers of guests
and much food and drink provided.
Ethiopian religious festivals are very
interesting; for example, Timkat, or Epiphany, is the most important
celebration of the Ethiopian Orthodox church, and takes place on January
18th and 19th. Easter is observed usually a week later than when the
Gregorian calendar dictates. The most important Muslim festival in
Ethiopia is Ramadan, which takes place on the ninth month of the Lunar
year, according to the Islamic calendar. These celebrations bring
together friends and families all over the country. In this celebration,
people dance and have a good time.
Relationships between young men and women may
need to be conducted in secret, until they are ready for marriage. Sex
appears to be a taboo subject. Normally women’s virginity is very
highly valued, with the whole family being shamed if she is not a virgin
at the marriage. Divorce is possible, although in both religions,
resolution by family and elder would be attempted before going through
the legal system. In the past, arranged marriages were common. While
this is not usually practiced now, it is important to marry someone the
family approves of.
In conclusion, Ethiopian culture is very
interesting, not only for the foreign people, but for Ethiopians too.
There are many things to say about Ethiopia, but to know more about
Ethiopian culture, visiting the country is very important. Ethiopia
today is among the poorest countries in the world, and some students may
not know that Ethiopia has had this kind of history. Ethiopia is the
home of an ancient and well-respected civilization. |
