This free download gives you a simple, but useful interface for viewing java's profile output. Useful for determining performance bottlenecks.

Shortcut to a tutorial page that quickly describes all the Swing components. I used this when I first started using Swing to quickly find out what component I wanted to use and how to use it.

This is a link to references that are more on the academic side. I've only looked at some of these briefly, but what I saw was pretty interesting.
