Rule's and Holman's Shafts engine houses breaking the skyline. (Summer 2001).
Holman's is the  engine house on the right with its walls still standing to full height. Some collapse has occurred around the openings which has left the outline of a hatted man who has run through the wall!
Holman's 70" engine was installed in 1875  as a result of the adjacent Rule's shaft engine being unable to keep up with the load. In 1887 the engine was sold and moved to Wheal Grenville near Camborne (Ref. Acton and Brown).

Rules 40" Engine lies to the left of the picture  and was demolished as part of a military exercise, leaving just part of the wall still standing to full height.

This plan shows the area on the southern slope of Caradon Hill around Rule's and Holman's shaft. The map is based on information  from maps published in Shambrook, Brown and Action , CAU and Ordnance Survey
The area is crossed with a network of tramways, tracks and leats that link the workings with the processing floors down in the Seaton Valley. These also connect with the eastern extremity of the sett at Kittow's shaft.
