Windows Training Resources
(Revised May 22, 1999)
This is by no means a complete listing of what's out there, but here are the most popular sources:
Criss-Cross Technologies offers tutorial cassettes in Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel and others. You can also subscribe to a monthly mini-tutorial series called "Listening In'.
Windows '95 Explained is produced by Sarah Morley from the UK. Sarah has completed a PH.D researching how non-visual users deal with Graphical User Interfaces. The book comes in three braille volumes, cassette and large print. You can also purchase a set of tactile diagrams that are very useful for explaining what's happening on Windows screens.
Assist With Windows Tutorials are the result of a project undertaken by the Iowa Department For The Blind. They cover a number of screen readers and can be downloaded in several formats.
Top Dot Enterprises has tutorial tapes for Windows and DOS, Internet and much more. You can also subscribe to an access technology magazine entitled "Sound Computing".
American Printing House For The Blind sells a CDROM basic windows tutorial specifically designed for the blind. I'm not sure this would be a complete substitute for one-on-one training, but it would be good for practice and concept reenforcement.
