FAQ:
What is Toastmasters International?
Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors elected by the membership. The first Toastmasters club was established on October 22, 1924, in Santa Ana, California, by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley, who conceived and developed the idea of helping others to speak more effectively. More clubs were formed, and Toastmasters International was incorporated under California law on December 19, 1932.
What are some of the things Toastmasters can help with?
You can become more confident:
*When anyone asks you a question and puts you on the spot.
*When you have to give a presentation, no matter how small or how long.
*When you have to be a Master of Ceremonies.
*When you REALLY DO have to toast someone.
*You CAN learn to pause and gather your thoughts before speaking.
What kinds of people go to these meetings?
Real people. Houswives, dentists, lawyers, professional speakers, pilots, trainers, security personnel, accountants, and anyone with a desire to improve their communications abilities whether it be for work, home, or play.
Who can attend your meetings?
Our club is open to any one interested.
How much does it cost to visit a meeting?
None. As a guest, you don't need to pay anything. Occasionally we hold special events and charge some fees.
How many times can I visit your club as a guest?
You can visit as many times as you want, but you cannot fully participate in meetings. If our club suits your meeds, we recommend you join.
Do I have to attend every meeting if I become a member?
Attendance and progression are self paced. We do encourage constant attendance so that you can learn from other presenters and evaluators.
