For those of you who may not be familiar with the term, Dad's Army was the name given to the British Home Guard during World War 2 as it was predominately made up of middle-aged and young men who did not qualify for active service. Nevertheless, these heroes played a very active part in providing a first line defense against the threat of an invasion by the German Army particularly along the coast line closest to France.

The BBC TV comedy series Dads Army is set in the fictitious seaside town of Walmington-on-Sea. The principle stars include Arthur Lowe as Captain George Mainwaring; John Le Mesurier as Sgt. Arthur Wilson; Clive Dunn as Cpl. Jack Jones; John Laurie as Private Jock Fraizer and Ian Lavender as Private Frank Pike, to mention but a few.

Dads Army has racked up some pretty impressive statistics over the years and is one of the few TV comedies to have made the transition from B&W to colour - yes! it's that old. The first episode of Dads Army appeared on British Television on 31st July 1968 and the final episode was screened on the 13th November 1977, nearly 10 years later. There were a total of 80 episodes between 1968 and 1970, mostly 30-minutes long but there were one or two longer. A total of 9 series were produced, the first in B&W, the remainder in colour.

The Dads Army Desktop Theme is my small tribute to the hit BBC TV comedy series Dads Army which attempts to capture a little of the fun that this delightful TV series brought to the screen.

The Desktop Theme features themed start-up and shutdown screens, 800x600 hi-colour wallpaper, special Dads Army animated cursors and new desktop icons. Also included are new windows sounds featuring some of the principle cast in a number of memorable situations. Full installation instructions are provided and the whole theme is available in a convenient zip file to download.
