Who is Captain Pugwash? Message Board Links Videos and Books Desktop Theme Frames No Frames
You have surfed into a web site dedicated to
providing you original Windows95 Desktop Themes for you to
download and enjoy. This page is my tribute to the classic BBC TV
animated childrens series Captain
Pugwash written and created by John
Ryan which is about to be revived in an all new £1.5
million series animated series due out later this year.
For those of you old enough to remember the original books and TV shows Captain Pugwash was by todays standards a rather crude attempt at animation which despite this found a place in our hearts probably because of the strength of the characters it featured. Captain Pugwash was a rather rotund kind-hearted pirate who captained the vessel the Black Pig, ably assisted by Master Mate, Willy and Tom the cabin boy. Pugwash's arch enemy Black Jake does his best to thwart Pugwash's plans but always seems to come off worse. Contrary to popular belief, the series never had any of the more colourful characters it is now credited with. Master Bates, Seaman Stains and Roger the cabin boy have all been invented by the media since the series went off the air in the 70's!!
Despite searching, I have not been able to come up with any statistics about the cartoon shows so this will have to suffice for now. It is my understanding that the series first appeared in 1958 and continued through to the late 60's. The repeats that followed ran through until the late seventies/early eighties. If anyone can fill in any of the missing blanks I would love to hear from you. Shiver me timbers you land lubbers do I have to do everything around here??
