Tragedy struck at the Olympic Village today when Casila the youngest member of Basically Bards suffered severe, if not life threatening, tissue damage to the phalanges of the right metacarpus.
(Cut to innocent bystander, really it's Matt disguised as Helen Sherman a Cleveland housewife and mother) "It was horrible there was blood everywhere."
(Cut to single drop of blood slowly dripping down open copy of Webster's unabridged dictionary)
Thanks to the heroic, if not life saving, efforts of Trancer and two firefighters Casila is resting comfortably in her dormitory at the Cirran Embassy Suits.
(Cut to Casila's bandaged finger.)
(Cut to Firefighter: It was rough going there for awhile. But she should regain full use of her fingers within the next couple of days.)
(Cut to the Goddess: It was wonderful, there was blood everywhere! Who knew, paper could cut?)
(Cut to blood drop on the dictionary, zoom in to show it's open to Merthiolate - Mess)
According to innocent bystanders (really it was Sherry) a heated aument between Casila and an unnamed team-mate (Darth Skeye was unavailable for comment) over the proper spelling of Mesopotamia had preceded the incident. Casila, apparently in the midst of some sort of bard haze was frantically flipping through the pages the dictionary. "She was completely out of control," sources say.
(Cut to reenactment of the paper cut incident -- Playing the part of Casila is Ms Hudson Leick)
HL: NO! It's an A I tell you! (go to slow motion as HL picks opens the dictionary)
(close up on her face in agony as the paper slices through the skin)
(blood everywhere...show dictionary drenched in blood)
(Cut to Trancer: Actually this kind of thing is quite common, especially amongst the younger more inexperienced bards.)
(Cut to field reporter)
Reporter: I am standing here with Acean owner of Buy the Scroll. Tell me Acean what kind of precautions can be taken to prevent this type of accident from occurring in the future?
Acean: Good Question. Basically my advise is to slow down. Turn the pages one at a time.
Reporter: Do you offer any remedies or treatments for paper cuts?
Acean: Yes absolutely. We have a fine selection of bandages, gauze, and even peroxide.
(camera slowly pans bandage selection)
(fade to main telecast desk with Hope McCoy and Roger Gibson)
RG: : Oh man! That had to hurt.
HM: I'm sure. But Trancer assures us that the wound should heal nicely.
RG: : What is this going to do to Basically Bard's chances in the next event?
HM: Well Roger, considering the next event is soccer, I'd say not much.
RG: : (blank stare)
HM: By all indications Casila should be up and around in no time.
RG: : (blank stare)
HM: Well that's all the time we have for today, join us tomorrow wh...
RG: : OH! I get it, ‘cuz you only use your FEET in soccer!
HM: (blank stare) (pause) ...when we will bring you live via tape delay soccer, in all it's agonizing glory.
