"I Saw Emily" . . . Mulder gazed down at Scully, slight frustration on his features as worry over her uncharacteristic willingness to believe struck him anew.

     "Scully, I think you're the one who's being misled and not just willingly, but willfully. I've never seen you more vulnerable, or susceptible or more easily manipulated and it scares me because I don't know why."

     Scully remained quiet with her head bowed, her eyes downcast while Mulder spoke. She was silent a beat or two more, gathering her courage, before she finally raised her face and looked her partner straight in the eye.

     "I saw Emily," she pronounced.

     Mulder didn't say anything, his eyes gazing into her own, searching for further elucidation. Her voice filled with a slight tremor, she offered some, "she came to me in a vision."

     Mulder let out a slight puff of air, his gaze moving from hers. Looking downward quickly before meeting her eyes once more, he again swiftly looked away, seeing the pain in her gaze. He reached out, laying an arm across her shoulders. Leaning in, his forehead almost touched the crown of her bowed head.

     His voice was low, "I think you should step away." He pulled back slightly, and gently squeezed her shoulder. She looked up and to the side, the noise of the officers milling about entering her consciousness.

     She looked back down when he spoke, before raising her head, a glint of defiance in her gaze as she looked at him, as she listened to his words.

     "Personal issues are making you lose your objectivity, clouding your judgment."

     Scully paused slightly before adhering to his advice, realizing that he most likely had a valid point, "you go. Go find the girl," she said quietly.
