District Attorney Adam Schiff
Veteran Broadway, motion picture and television actor Steven Hill was nominated in 1997 for an Emmy as Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his performance as the battle weary no-nonsense D.A. Adam Schiff on "Law & Order." Now in his tenth season, Hill is the only actor left from the show’s first season.
Hill was born in Seattle but left for New York in the early 1950s, where he appeared in many of the most popular dramatic shows during television’s Golden Age. For his performance in "Man on a Mountaintop," directed by Arthur Penn, Hill received the industry’s Sylvania Award as Best Actor. In 1960 he starred as Bartolomeo Vanzetti in "The Sacco-Vanzetti Story" on NBC. He was the original lead in the first season of "Mission: Impossible" (1966-67) and was nominated for an Emmy Award for his guest appearance on "thirtysomething."
Hill’s movies include "Eyewitness," "Rich and Famous," "Brighton Beach Memoirs," "Yentl," "Heartburn," "Raw Deal," "It’s My Turn," "The Boost," "Teachers," Sidney Lumet’s "Garbo Talks," "Billy Bathgate" and "The Firm."
His stage credits include the original Broadway productions of "Sundown Beach," "Lady from the Sea," "Mr. Roberts" and "The Country Girl." His most recent appearance on Broadway was in "A Far Country," for which he won rave reviews for the starring role of Sigmund Freud.
Hill lives in New York with his wife. His birthday is February 24.
