Assistant District Attorney Jack McCoy
Sam Waterston has starred in film, television and on stage, earning critical acclaim and a host of awards. Waterston joined the cast of "Law & Order" six years ago as Jack McCoy, a charismatic and tough Assistant D.A. He is twice nominated for an Emmy as Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series and has earned a Golden Globe nomination and two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations.
Waterston also earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his performance in "The Killing Fields," three Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe Award for the former NBC series "I’ll Fly Away," and two Golden Globe nominations for "The Great Gatsby." He received an Emmy Award as host of the ten-part NBC informational series "Lost Civilizations" and has also been nominated for several British Television Awards. Waterston’s other notable films include "Hopscotch," "Heaven’s Gate," "Just Between Friends," "Welcome Home," "The Shadow Conspiracy," John Waters’ "Serial Mom," and the Woody Allen films "Interiors," "Hannah and Her Sisters" and "Crimes and Misdemeanors."
His stage work includes Broadway and off-Broadway productions as well as many productions with the New York Shakespeare Festival, such as "As You Like It," "Cymbeline," "Measure for Measure" and "Hamlet." He earned a Tony Award nomination for his role as Abe Lincoln in "Abe Lincoln in Illinois" at the Lincoln Center Theater in New York, and an Obie Award and a Drama Desk Award for his portrayal of Benedict in "Much Ado About Nothing."
Waterston lives in Connecticut with his wife and four children. His birthday is November 15.
