LILA AND CASS'/NIGHT
REGINALD is still out cold on the floor. Cass has hung up his
cell phone and Lila is holding onto him for dear life.
CASS
Umm...this may be an awful question, but...what's going on? Why
is Reginald Love---excuse me, a supposed-to-be-DEAD Reginald
Love--- laying on my living room floor?
CARL
It's a long story, Cass.
CASS
I'm up for the explanation. (To Lila) Honey, are you okay?
LILA
(nodding)
I'm just shaken up. I think we all are...this man...my God, what
a horrid man.
CASS
I know...he's done some terrible things in Bay City. Why is he in
our living room, though?
LILA
Apparently, he has some sort of vendetta against Carl...
CASS
Okay...Carl---vendetta---gun. That explains a few things. But it
still doesn't explain how he ended up here.
LILA
(dryly)
He also claims that he's my father.
Cass just stares at her, silently.
LILA (cont'd)
You've got the same reaction I had.
CASS
Do you know who this man is, Lila?
LILA
I know he's a psychopath. That's about all I need to know.
CASS
He's also Donna's father. Vicky and Marley's grandfather.
LILA
(stunned)
What? I knew their family was wacked, but I didn't realize they
were THIS wacked.
CASS
Now you know, sweetheart. Where are the girls?
LILA
Asleep, thank God. This didn't wake them up.
The door opens and the police enter, Joe approaching the small
group.
JOE
Okay, so what's happened here?
LILA
That man--(She points to Reginald)---attempted to come in here
and hold us all hostage.
JOE
The guy who's asleep on the floor?
LILA
(exasperatedly)
We knocked him OUT, Joe.
JOE
You did a damn good job, too, looks like. (Turning to his men.)
All right, let's get him to the ER to have his head checked out,
and then we'll question him. (He turns back to Cass, Lila, Carl,
and Amanda.) The four of you can go, but I'll need you in the
morning at the station for questioning.
CASS
I'll make sure Lila's there.
LILA
I don't want to wait until morning.
CASS
(softly to her)
You've been through a lot tonight. I think you need to time to
digest it.
Lila grudgingly nods.
JOE
Amanda...I think you should get home...we received another call
at the station...from Rachel. It seems that Alli may have run
away.
AMANDA
What? Run away?
JOE
She and Sean are both gone.
AMANDA
(realization coming across her face)
Oh, no...Carl, we've got to go home.
She rushes out and Carl follows.
CUT TO:
CORY MANSION/NIGHT
RACHEL is alone in the living room. As the phone rings, she grabs
it.
RACHEL
Alli?
CUT TO:
BC Airport
JAKE
No, it's not Alli.
RACHEL
Jake.
JAKE
Sorry to disappoint you. We're at the airport, Rachel, and
there's no sign. Of either one of them.
RACHEL
Did you find out if anyone matching their descriptions purchased
tickets?
JAKE
They won't give us names, something about airline rules, but they
did say that they haven't seen anyone who looks like Sean or Alli
traveling together.
RACHEL
Have you checked the train station yet?
JAKE
No...we're on our way there now. If we find anything, we'll call
you immediately.
RACHEL
Please do, Jake...
They hang up and Rachel resumes pacing. Almost immediately, the
phone rings again. Rachel picks it up.
RACHEL
Hello?
CUT TO:
BC Bus Station
MATT
It's me, Mom. I'm at the bus station.
RACHEL
Anything?
MATT
Nothing, Absolutely nothing.
RACHEL
Damn it! Jake just called from the airport and they came up with
zero, too.
MATT
There's a chance that they're still in Bay City, Mom. They may
not have gone anywhere.
RACHEL
And they could be halfway to Timbuktu by now. And where is your
sister? God, she's out somewhere and doesn't even know that her
only daughter is missing!
MATT
Mom, I'll be home in a few minutes.
Matt hangs up and Rachel stands there with the phone in her
hands. The front door opens and AMANDA comes flying in, followed
by Carl.
AMANDA
Mom? What's going on, where's Alli?
RACHEL
Amanda! I don't know....we've got the police looking for her,
Matt and Jake and Vicky are at the airport, and the train
station, and the bus station...
AMANDA
When did she leave? How the hell did she get out of here without
anyone noticing?
RACHEL
I'm afraid none of us have been noticing her lately.
AMANDA
God....(she glances at Carl)...maybe if I hadn't been so intent
on revenge...my daughter wouldn't be God knows where.
RACHEL
Where have you two been tonight?
CARL
We'll explain later. It's a long story and it's one that I think
you'll need to be sitting down for. What's important right now is
finding Alli.
Rachel hugs Amanda.
CUT TO:
BCUH-HAYLEY'S ROOM/NIGHT
FELICIA walks in with a pitcher of water. HAYLEY is half asleep,
but looks over at Felicia.
HAYLEY
I thought you were going to sleep.
FELICIA
That's what you should be doing yourself, young lady. Giving
birth is exhausting enough as it is, and you've been through
triple the stress of a normal birth.
HAYLEY
(shrugging)
I keep drifting in and out. I keep thinking about the baby. Do
you think I could see him before they take him?
FELICIA
Honey, until you sign those papers, he's still legally your son.
I think you should hold him. You need to be able to have closure.
HAYLEY
I know. I'll see him in the morning. (She yawns) Lorna looked
completely wiped out.
FELICIA
She was. This has been almost as rough on her as it has been on
you.
HAYLEY
She's done a lot for me. So have you. I couldn't get through this
without you.
FELICIA
Hayley, I want to tell you something, just so you know...before
someone else tells you.
HAYLEY
Okay...
FELICIA
It's about Lorna.
HAYLEY
What about her?
FELICIA
When you were in the coma...she told Josie and Gary that she
wasn't going to let you adopt your baby.
HAYLEY
(stunned)
What?
FELICIA
Hear me out, Hayley. She did that because she thought she was
going to lose you. And if she did, it would have broken her heart
to let go of the last piece of you.
HAYLEY
So she was going to raise my son because she didn't want to let
go of me?
FELICIA
I don't think you realize how much she's come to love you,
Hayley. You're a part of our family now, as much as if you'd been
with us since you were born. It was almost effortless for all of
us to make you a part of the family. And the thought of you
slipping out of our lives just as quickly as you slipped in---
Felicia pauses, choking up. Hayley reaches out and takes her
hand, her own eyes filling with tears. Neither of them speaks
again as Hayley closes her eyes and drifts off to sleep.
