POLICE STATION/MORNING
LILA and DONNA are sitting next to one another, but neither is
saying a word. They keep sneaking short glances at one another,
but glance back at their hands when the other notices. After a
minute of this, Lila sighs.
LILA
The only way to find out is to ask him.
DONNA
I know that. But we're not getting in there until Joe says so.
They fall back into silence for a minute.
LILA
What if it's true?
DONNA
What if what's true?
LILA
What if I AM his daughter?
DONNA
We'll deal with it.
LILA
I can just see your daughters dealing with it...especially Vicky.
VICKY and JAKE walk up behind them as they overhear the last
line.
VICKY
Especially Vicky what?
Donna sighs.
DONNA
Nothing.
VICKY
Mom....have you seen him?
DONNA
Reginald? No....and how did you find out? Did Joe tell you?
Vicky gives Jake a nervous glance.
VICKY
Not exactly....
DONNA
What do you mean, not exactly...? How did you know that Reginald
was alive?
VICKY
He....he kind of called me to his suite last night.
DONNA
(glaring at Vicky icily)
Excuse me?
VICKY
He called me to his suite. I didn't know he was alive before
then.
DONNA
So...you just...kept this information to yourself?
VICKY
No...I was going to tell all of you. But then Sean ran off and---
DONNA
Sean's gone? Where?
JAKE
That's what we'd like to know. Looks like last night was a big
night for quite a few people.
DONNA
(to Vicky)
What did Reginald say to you? I shudder to think of you in the
same room with him.
VICKY
He'd never hurt me. You know that. He asked me for my help.
DONNA
(sneering)
Your HELP? What kind of HELP?
VICKY
He wanted me to help him...introduce himself to his lost child.
(She begins speaking more rapidly.) I don't know who he was
talking about, but he kept going on and on about having a child
in Bay City and he had to find her and welcome her into the
family---
DONNA
He told you he had a long-lost child?
VICKY
Yeah...he said it was someone I knew.
DONNA
Oh, no...
VICKY
What? Do you know something?
DONNA
(Looking at Lila)
Vicky...there's a chance...actually, sounds like there's more
than a chance...
VICKY
Spit it out, Donna.
DONNA
You could be standing next to your Aunt Lila.
Jake and Vicky stare at Donna and Lila in amazement.

BCUH-HAYLEY'S ROOM/SAME DAY
CASS has spread papers on the tray across HAYLEY'S bed. He holds
a pen in his hand and points to each paper as he explains it.
CASS
This is the document that relinquishes your parental rights. When
you sign that, you're terminating all legal claims to the baby.
HAYLEY
So if we wanted him back, we couldn't do it?
CASS
(pausing)
Hayley, if at some point you change your mind and decide you want
custody, I'll tell you that the courts usually favor the birth
parents. But if you're unsure---
HAYLEY
I'm not unsure. I just want to make sure I understand everything.
I'm not going back on the adoption.
CASS
Just make sure. You'll save a lot of heartache down the road.
HAYLEY
I'm positive. What's this?
CASS
This is authorizing the adoption by Josie and Gary Sinclair.
HAYLEY
It's a lot of paperwork for such a little baby.
CASS
A lot of legalities. So...are you ready to sign?
Hayley takes the pen and begins signing as Cass directs her. When
she signs her name to the last paper, she hands the pen to Tito,
who does the same thing.
HAYLEY
So it's official now?
CASS
It's official. I'll have to go to Gary and Josie now. Is there
anything else you want to ask?
Hayley shakes her head.
TITO
Can we give them something for him? I mean, will you give it to
them for us, Mr. Winthrop?
Cass nods, and Tito reaches into a bag to pull out a small teddy
bear.
TITO (cont'd)
From me and Hayley. So he has something from us. (To Hayley) I
would have gone out to get him something but I had to settle for
the gift shop...and it's not much---
HAYLEY
(quietly)
It's perfect. Thank you.
Cass gathers up the papers and snaps his briefcase shut.
CASS
(to Hayley)
Do you want me to send Felicia and your sister in?
HAYLEY
No...not just yet. I think Tito and I need some time.
Cass nods, giving her a quick hug, and leaves.
CUT TO:
HOSPITAL WAITING ROOM/SAME MORNING
JOSIE and GARY are in the waiting room. They look up as Cass
enters.
CASS
Hayley and Tito have signed. All that's left is for the two of
you to sign and take your son home.
He begins removing papers from his briefcase.
JOSIE
This is it? This is really it?
CASS
This is really it.
GARY
It just doesn't seem real yet.
CASS
It'll seem real enough during those 2 AM feedings. All right,
let's get started. You've got a lot of things to sign and the
sooner they're done, the sooner you go home.
He hands a pen to Josie. For a minute, they concentrate on
signing the papers. Josie pauses over one.
JOSIE
Does this one make him officially ours?
CASS
Officially.
Josie glances at Gary, then smiles and takes his hand as she
signs. She passes the pen to him and he signs.
CASS
You're done. He's yours.
Josie hugs Cass.
JOSIE
Thank you, Cass. Thank you so much for all you've done.
CASS
You two deserve it. So go on, get out of here, and take him home.
Oh, hang on...I knew I was forgetting something.
He gives them the teddy bear.
CASS
From Tito and Hayley. They wanted him to have something from
them.
JOSIE
Tell them both thank you.
CASS
I will.
Josie and Gary leave as Cass begins to put the papers away.
CUT TO:
SEATTLE TRAIN STATION/SAME MORNING
ALLI steps down off the train onto the platform carefully. As she
moves out of the way, SEAN follows her. They walk to the waiting
area of the station, where Alli puts her backpack on a chair.
ALLI
Okay, so we're here. Where do we go?
SEAN
I don't know. It's morning. We're in a new city. We should
explore.
ALLI
Okay, but I want to dump my crap somewhere before we go anywhere.
We should check into a hotel.
SEAN
A hotel? You want to waste our money on a hotel? Why don't we
just get some camping supplies and find somewhere to camp out?
ALLI
(wryly)
You just said camp? I heard you correctly, right? You said
'camp'?
SEAN
Yeah...camp. You know, the great outdoors and all that...
ALLI
(rolling her eyes)
I don't sleep on the ground. If you're all that worried, I'll pay
for the hotel until we find somewhere permanent to stay.
SEAN
It's your cash. Whatever.
ALLI
And I'm starving. Let's go find a hotel, check in, and then get
some food.
SEAN
All right. First stop is the information desk for a map. I'm not
about to get lost in Seattle.
ALLI
Lead the way.
She follows Sean out of the waiting room.
