Original Works

My madness keeps me sane*…..
* Paraphrase from The Sandman number 31 written by Neil Gamien

Everyone can do something. Some people sing. Others play sports. A few draw. I write. I've written since before I can remember, particularly poetry; it was a form of therapy for me, getting all my emotions and images out on paper, or at least in some semblance of order.

Here is a collection of a few of my favourite poems and short stories I've written. Everything on this page is 100% original; it has been influenced by a lifetime of reading books and watching tv, but ever work is a product of my own imagination and experiences, both borrowed and lived. These are my babies; touch them without permission and…well, just think of it as getting between a lioness and her cubs. It's not a very healthy thing to do.

I've now got an Elfwood page in the Wyvern's Library, a site dedicated to publishing fantasy and science fiction artwork and writings, in the writing section. You can go there to see some of my newer Fantasy pieces (It's easier to update there, so I go there first.) and comment on them in the section they give you. Please, do, although try to be as critical (Although as NICE) as possible, I need the comments to help improve myself. If you want to comment on items that only appear here, please mail me them.

If you would like to, you can also read my CyberSix-inspired writing.

Most of my work is pretty self-explanatory, I think, but each piece will have a little blurb about my feelings and stuff. Hope you all like them.

Poetry

I've got a lot of poetry, but most of them aren't as good now as they were when they were first written. Others, however, have gotten better with age. These are the one's I've written so far that I think you'll appreciate; enjoy! :)

A Computer's Life

I get a lot of favourite lines out of poems that just appeared on paper, and I never appreciated until afterwards when I reread the thing. The part about forsaking gods in here is one of those; I like the entire message of the poem, however, that line just sums it all up in a single thought.

A View of the Universe

This one speaks for itself. I especially like the twist at the end. Don't know what else to say, except that it's one of my all time favourite philosophical pieces.

Medusa - Fleeting Touch

This was supposed to be the third of a series of "Femme Fatale" poems I had planned (The first is "Siren", see that description for more on the series), but it got written bofore "The Ice Nymph" (Which at this time is still uncompleted), so it's the second. It's also a classic example of how a poem can get away from me; I was originally writting for a naitive Medusa, that misunderstood what the men were coming to her for. After a bit, though, it because subtly more sexual, where the men came to willingly trade their lives for a night in the arms of what used to be one of the most beautiful women in the world. A friend I showed it to said it made her think of an anorexic girl, though, so I guess there's a lot in it.

The Middle of the Hill

Another one of those images that just got into my head and ran wild. But it does bear thinking about; another one of my good philosophical pieces.

Mirror Girl

Written last summer, it actually postdates my suicidal period - in other words, don't worry, I don't feel like this anymore. It just started as an image in my head, and I went with it. I particularly like the sinister feeling of the last line and the paradox of it.

The Piper

This is one of my oldest pieces, and yet considered one of my best. I wrote it originally from a very literal point of view, but as I read it again from an older perspective, I find so much metaphorical meaning that I never really intended (Why I'm of the "The Reader brings in 50% {or more} of the poem to it" camp). It's based on the last book of the Anne of Green Gables series (Has anyone else actually ever read it? LOL), where one of Anne's children was supposed to have written a poem called "The Piper"...but the never wrote it out, only alluded to it. Frustrated by this, I took some of the experiences of the "author" (Including his death, and the letter he wrot to his sister foretelling it) and wrote this.

Sensical Things

This one defies description by its very nature. I wrote it one late evening, looked at it, and thought I was nuts. I'm glad I saved it anyway; it's one of my favorites of my favorites. Just read it, and see where you end up. :)

The Sentinel

Short and bittersweet. One of my first good freestyle poems; now that's my favourite style, go figure.

Siren

I was sitting with my friends, when one of the worst things that can happen to an artist happened: I felt inspired to write a poem, but had NO idea what to write it about. Helpless, I asked my friends, but the couldn't suggest anything that fit the inspiration. But they were looking at a Playstation Magazine, that was advertising Final Fantasy VII figures, including one of the summons (? I've never played the game myself...), Siren. I pulled out a piece of paper, and this is what happened. The moral: Inspiration can come anywhere, the kernel to use it from anything, and the result totally different from it. I liked the result so much, I planned to examine sexuality and attraction through some mythlogical women, which I call my "Femme Fatale" poems. "Medusa - Fleeting Touch" is above, "The Ice Nymph" is not yet completed (Ran out of inspiration, don't worry, it'll be back...)

Thorns of the Heart

All my poems used to rhyme, but this is one of the few of those I still like. No, it never really happened to me; I just wanted to see what would happen if I made a symbol of love, the rose, become something totally different. And no, this has nothing to do with my character Rose, either. Considered by most to be one of my best.

Vampire

I need a title for this, but have NO clue. Oh, well… I have a real thing for vampires; it's the dark side of my nature. This poem is more adult than anything else here, which means kids wouldn't understand it, but they wouldn't be any more scarred by it than any of my other works. Here's to me finding someone dark, handsome, and mysterious of my own!

Short Stories

I don't really do short stories per say; I either do images or full novels. These are called stories only in that they're prose and longer than my poems; don't expect anything else different from what's above than that.

Child of the Storm

I have to put this one up; I really, really like it. This one goes out to all the forgotten children stuck in dissolving families; I promise, some day you too will fly away and be free.

From Dust to Dust

Just a fun little piece put here to make you think: What if? And if you still don't get it, go look in the Bible…

Ice Fight

Another one that needs a real title, it's more an isolated image than anything else. I wrote this when some of my friends were fighting with each other. Rather like the imagery here, and it succeeds in portraying my feelings when those I love are angry with each other.
