F.A.Q. The F.A.Q. is an ever
evolving thing. New questions and answers will be added as time
goes on, as I feel the need.
a Please go back to the first page you visited ("Home" on the links over there <-). Everything you need to know is detailed under "How it works..." a Why do you list "Source" on the DVDs, and what does it mean? The source column is there to let you know where the disk came from and a little about the format. Example: MPEG-1 (V-CD format) video files are lower quality than MPEG-2 (DVD format) files, but take up less room once converted to DVD (and also may not play on PS2 and low end DVD players). Also some series were created in a "Double Layered" format, which means the video was piggybacked on itself (4.7GB a DVD, doubled to 8.5, which makes not difference in quality, just disk space). Some are VHS rips, which are taken from a VHS source (usually rare series found no other way). SVHS Master Rips, like with "Brother, Dear Brother" come from the SVHS masters from TechnoGirls, and are near DVD quality and without the screen jumps you may see in VHS rips. DVD is a commercial DVD import (not licensed in the US). a Hopefully this explains a little bit about why listing the source is import and clear up any questions. However feel free to e-mail me if you need further explanation. a Why don't you list source on V-CDs? V-CDs come in only one format, MPEG-1. a Will you tell me about "X" series? Unfortunately, due to time restraints I am not able to give synopsis upon request. However, there are many places you can go to find out info about different series. Several of them are on the links page (D-Addicts.com, JDorama.com). Or, of course you can always search by title on places like Goggle or Yahoo. a I just shipped the trade / 2:1 at Priority, and / or Insured, and / or With Delivery Confirmation. PLEASE, before you ship ALWAYS confirm with me your plans if you are going to pay a lot for shipping. I'm thrifty and usually don't like paying for extra. And as to insurance, I NEVER insure. Mainly because, though this is on the gray fringe of the law, USPS doesn't look at it that way. They would NOT honor insurance on the items if they were damaged or lost, due to their nature. a My DVD Player, etc., won't play the disk!! There are a LOT of DVD players, etc. out there. Sometimes they just aren't compatible with all V-CDs and DVD formats. It doesn't happen often, especially these days, but it can happen. I can't make any guarantees as to the playabilty of a disk on the equipment you're using. However if the disk is scratched or damaged, just let me know and we'll work at trading for a replacement. a The subtitles are falling off the screen! I pull my .avi & video files from a lot of sources & some Digisubbers place the subtitles lower on the screen than others. Sometimes I can tweak it so they appear higher, but usually if it's low on the screen, that's the way it's going to be. The only thing I can recommend is to go into your DVD player's menu and see if you can change the aspect ratio to a smaller size. This usually will correct the problem. a I think you should do "X" differently. You're more than welcome to hold an opinion. However , this is my distro. I'm the one putting out the time and effort, and so how I do things is within the structure of what I'm personally able and / or willing to do. a Are you going to have the Sailor Moon Anime on DVD? Strange how this question keeps coming up... The answer however, is no. Sailor Moon was one of my first animes and was my first fansub back when I was starting out (1998). However, it's not something I like or care for anymore. The drama is good, but I just don't enjoy the anime, so will never carry it. a Didn't you use to have a whole bunch of stuff on tape? Still do. However when you've only had one tape request and one VHS trade within a year, it's time to phase it out. Plus a lot of the old Anime on VHS that was in my collection is now coming out commercially anyway. a TV-Nihon says you're evil: My response to TV-N given on July 11, 04 a If you've come her to
bitch because a certain egocentric
group who
sub several of Japan's most inane, puerile, kiddy shows, and who
basically cater to the lowest tier of so called "fandom," told you
to... FYI... I did have their permission, in writing,
to distro, prior to them
attempting to dictate to me as to how I was to express myself in a
public forum that they had no connection to other than being fellow
members
(and in which the forum mod had not said word one to me or complained
about what I had to say and/or my behavior), only to pull permission
when I replied that I was not "going
to censor myself to appease you & it's not a fair trade that I
should have to behave in a manner you judge fitting and tell me to in
exchange to have permission to distro. In fact, it's a rather
egotistical thing to attempt to play puppet master in such a manner."
So, if you've come to gripe because I've been "selling their fansubs,"
realize they had full disclosure as to my cost and prices, really
didn't care if I was making money off it until I bruised their over
inflated egos. It's called being hypocrites.
aa And, no, honestly, I'm not proud of the fact that I was willing to" tow the line," and kiss their ass for as long as I did. Or that I kept quiet about some of their practices that I had been aware of, out of fear of retaliation. I did however wake up, and am very proud that I didn't let them continue to step on me, and finally had the courage to tell them where they could get off. To be honest, after all of this, and the sheer HELL they put me through, I don't really give a damn about having their permission or not at this point. I appreciate the effort they put into fansubbing, but that still doesn't give them the right to go around acting like the mini-mafia, using fear and threats of retaliation to control people. The folks at TV-N need to grow up and realize that they are just fansubbers. Translating Japanese media doesn't give them the right to persecute someone, like they did in my case, just because they don't agree with their views and opinions. a |
