The memorial to the confederate soldiers stands at the apex of the Battery along the Charleston harbor. While visiting there, you may see one of the many tour carriages pass by. A short walk away along Meeting Street are many historic buildings and homes - one of them is the First Scots Presbyterian Church. Take a left on Broad to see a perfect example of wrought iron adorning a balcony. Returning to Meeting and continuing west, you will soon see the old Market Place with vendors selling their wares.

Drive across the Cooper River Bridge to Mt. Pleasant and visit Boone Hall Plantation where John Jake's "North and South" was filmed. On highway 61, nestled on the shore of the Ashley River, is one of the South's most historic plantations, Middleton Place.
