Ever since I was a lad, I've been an
avid reader and it has always
been easy for me to lose myself in
a book; to become absorbed by
the stories and the characters.

However, for a fair number of
years, my reading declined to
about 1 or 2 books a month.
Scandalous, I know!

One of the reasons my reading

amount had declined was time.  I
was simply spending more time
doing other things.  Another
reason was, I'm sorry to say,
television.  It was just easier to
flop down in front of the T.V.
and let it entertain me. And, I
might add, there
were some
things on the tube to actually
entertain.

Well, let me step back a moment...

My wife and I live in a rural area.  I was going to say "very rural", but I don't
know if that's actually the case...I suppose it is.  We have no city amenities.
We have no gas lines, cables (for phones, internet or television), sidewalks,
sewage systems or any of those things you'd associate with a city or town.
No shops, stores of any kind, restaurants, sidewalks or policemen. But there
is an up side. We have no crowding, heavy traffic, city ordinances or taxes,
and no crime.  My keys are in the truck, right now.  It's not locked.  My house
is not locked whether I'm here or away, and never has been.  As a matter of
fact, for a period of three years my wife and I couldn't locate the keys to the
house, at all!  Our biggest threats are mostly to livestock. Poisonous snakes
and packs of coyotes.  We are blessed in that we do not have to suffer
predation by humans, the fiercest and most evil of predators.
