Adventures in Arcadayn
The Ocean of Darkness

By Tim Emrick

The Ocean of Darkness is a vast uncharted body of water to the west of Arcadayn. The body of water between the Northlands and the Fey Isles is properly called the Dragon Sea, while the that between the Fey Isles and the Storm Isles is the Dusklark Sea. All three bodies hold great dangers for sailors--storms, sea monsters, faeries and more--but the ocean proper is the worst.

The Outlands to the north and south of the Arcadayn coasts are largely unexplored. The surviving stories of the Anidel Pilgrims suggest that other groups of human Pilgrims settled these lands, but the men of Arcadayn have had little contact with these races since Landfall.

According to the Northlanders, the northern Outlands eventually turn to icy wastelands, and are even more inhospitible than their native shores. (Those with some knowledge of the Whitecrags liken the climate to that range's interior.) A few Northlander myths claim that spirits of fire and ice wage eternal war in the far north.

The Anidel Pilgrims are thought to have landed on the southwestern shores of the Landrings, but that region was long ago abandoned for the interior of Arcadayn. The southern Outland shores, where the Landrings meet the ocean, are believed to be covered with thick forests rendered dark through ancient magics. Some of the pirates of "Corsairia" claim to rule petty kingdoms of enslaved savages on these shores. Other tales claim that these lands are inhabited by manticores, dragons, semi-civilized sea monsters, and renegade wizards who seek dangerous secrets in lost Anidel cities.
