Riot
STATUS: Heel. Feuding with Danger.
WRESTLING: Riot is damn good. She has a varied array of moves, including a devastating powerbomb, and she is always working on new moves. She debuted a corkscrew elbow at the PPV that wowed everybody. Although she has rapidly become a premier attraction, she is willing and able to take bumps as well.
CHARACTER: Originally, Riot was supposed to be the "Heavy Metal Maniac". I suppose she could have stuck closely to that gimmick like so many other WOW wrestlers and walked around saying things like "I'm gonna smash you like a cheap guitar" ... in which case you wouldn't be reading this page, since I wouldn't be following WOW :-) Instead, Riot sought to carve out a more realistic character, and has done it extremely well. Her promos are definitely among WOW's most entertaining. Even though she says some pretty wacky things ("I'm gonna powerbomb you again and again until they have to pry me off your bloody corpse!"), she makes you buy it because she seems to inhabit her character. Her use of body language is always entertaining and sometimes hilarious. Riot also runs her own Yahoo club for her fans, in addition to participating regularly on the WOW message board.
LOOKS: To me, Riot is the sexiest wrestler in WOW. It goes to show how much attitude and confidence play into these things. Although I do think Riot has the best legs in WOW, and has fantastic penetrating eyes, I wouldn't say that she is overall the best-looking. But I'm a sucker for her teasingly provocative, "look but don't touch" persona.
COMMENTS: It's no secret that I am a Riot mark. I'm not exactly alone, though. Riot is definitely over more than any other WOW wrestler. She seems to love what she's doing, and she's very good at it. If everyone in WOW had her energy, confidence, and dedication, the federation wouldn't have too much to worry about. Her rivalry with Danger should give us some classic confrontations.
UPDATES:
2/4/2001 (PPV):
- Riot cost Danger the title, keeping a great feud going.
2/18/2001 (show #20):
- Riot injured Danger's leg in an out-of-ring confrontation. It looked cheesy.
It looked very much like the "they broke my leg" Selina
Majors angle, which as we know failed. I don't think they needed to overdramaticize
this conflict. It's enough that they're fighting for the title and putting each
other through tables. I felt that the feud lost a lot of heat this week.
