| Transformers The Movie This is definately one for the guys; Action, Fighting, Aspirational characters (in some strange way), Stadium Rock soundtrack, and a lot of Death(they use the excuse that they're robots, not humans being killed so they turn up the violence, without pushing up the certificate). There are several problems with it, firstly the animation lags at times, which doesn't help, and in the middle of film, the story seems to become very jumpy, and scenes don't follow on smoothly. It seems to fail in the production department, but otherwise this is excellent high octane, testosterone fueled anime. Patlabor I and II Excellent detective/sci-fi/mecha anime. Just take my word for it, watch both of them. Now. (especially if you enjoy the macross titles) The Castle Of Cagliostro Before viewing this film, i had read a lot of reviews and recommendations for it, so i checked it out. And in one word FANTASTIC. Everything good you here about this movie, believe it, as it is a true classic. The thrilling storyline, suave characters, the humor, the creativity, the wonderfully distinct retro feel and the charm amalgamate to produce one hell of an anime movie. Macross Plus This is the singularly brilliant, (almost flawless) anime title i have seen. First up i you are a follower of the Macross series you are in for a treat, its totally solitary from the others series, both in storyline and in technical quality. If you havent already seen the other Macross you will enjoy this as much (or even more). Every detail of this epic four-part OAV, has been entered in perfect rhythm with everything else. Visually this series is stunning, on the level of Ghost In The Shell, fluid animation, lavishly ilustrated, and perfectly harmonized colours are used to create, (in my own strange opinion)an awe-inspiring, natural utopia. The world of Eden is a welcome change to watching such titles as Dominion, in which Masamune Shirow has created a powerful reflection of the Earth's future, cold and polluted. The characters themselves are excellent, convincing personalities and genuine emotion. The actions and lives of the three main characters are strikingly well executed,but still does'nt subjugate everything else. The single element of the whole series that 'did it' for me was the score. Perfectly suited for the individual sitiuations, and even more noteable was the 'theme' for Macross plus; Sharon Apple's haunting song Voices. Evocative and beautiful, unlike i have ever heard on any television programme before. A perfect blend of Sci-fi and story telling, a classic. Moomins Don't judge this series until you've seen all of it. This is in my opinion a children's classic, a long as you ignore some of the more un-inspired episodes and concentrate on the charm, and magic of the storylines. Very imaginative, with characters for all tastes and an exquisite backdrop in the world of moomin valley. Poignantly innocent, one to watch for a wonderful adventure. |
