Raising Chao

Like people, Chao have feelings. You should keep a Chao as happy as you can and don't make it upset. So take care of your Chao. Here are the feelings a Chao has.

Happiness - When your Chao is happy a heart will appear over its head.

Peace - Your Chao will lie on the ground looking around happily.

Bored - Sits on the ground doing nothing. Sometimes plays with a toy it won during this mood.

Upset - A twirly line appears over its head.
Cuddle, pet, or feed it nuts.

Tired - Its eyes are half closed and it has a twirly line over its head.

Hungry - Your Chao will start crying and hit the ground with its hands and feet when its hungry.

Scared - Your Chao will close its eyes and shiver making some sort of noise (no, it's not cold). It will usually do this after you hit it.

Dizzy - I'm not sure how this happens. I think it happens when you wake your Chao up too many times. Your Chao's eyes will spin. @_@

Extremely Unhappy - Starts crying a lot. This happens when you hit it a lot, take a nut away from it, or force it to eat a lot of nuts.

The best way to hatch an egg is to pick it up and shake it. To do this pick up the egg while holding the B/X button and move the anolog thumb pad in any direction. You can also throw the egg against the wall or wait for it to hatch. When your Chao hatches it will be light
blue and have a face that it will have for the rest of its life, or until it's reborn.

Like I said, when you hatch a Chao it
will have a face it will have until it is reborn. Here are a few of the faces and how to get them.

Happy Face: Don't touch the egg. Let it hatch on its own.

Normal Face: Shake the egg for about 5 seconds.

Evil Face: Throw the egg against the wall.

Upside-Down Evil Grin: Supposedly you
have to jump around the garden with the egg for 2-5 minutes and put it back down (or throw it at the wall). I never got this Chao face.

Remember, these are only the best ways to get these faces. And I can't guarantee that they will always work.

Below is a list of the 3 different type of Chao. What kind of Chao you get depends on which kind of characters you used and how many times you used them.

Neutral Chao: Completly normal Chao. Raise it with hero and dark characters equally.

Hero Chao: Looks like an angel when it evolves. Raise it with hero characters.

Dark Chao: Looks like a devil when it evolves. Raise it with dark characters.

After you've taken care of your Chao long enough, it will go into a cacoon and evolve.
The way it evolves depends on the characters you've raised it with and the animals and Chaos Drives you've given it. For instance, if you give a newborn Chao nothing but purple animals using both Hero and Dark characters you will get a Purple Jester Chao.

After your Chao has evolved and aged a bit it will enter its Breeding Season. To breed the Chao take another Chao that has evolved and put it in front of the Chao. If they like each other they will mate and lay an egg. The egg will have some traits of the parents. Sometimes, if the parents were different colors, your Chao might have a combined color or one of the colors of one parent. This is VERY rare however.

After your Chao has finished its Breeding Season it will begin its second evolution. The second evolution is a gradual change, your Chao won't go into a cacoon like the first one. You can give your Chao animals at this point to transform it. But, just giving it animals and Chaos Drives isn't enough. You must let your Chao age. Even if you give your Chao 1,000 animals or Chaos Drives you will see little or no difference. I had a incomplete Shadow Chao that I was making. It had high stats and I didn't want to ruin them with animals. So I stopped giving it green animals. But when it aged a bit its horns grew bigger and its stripes were dark orange. When you see a difference begin giving it more animals. With time and patience you will get the Chao you want.

Masks are objects that a Chao can put on its face. There are 3 masks in the game. There are the Egg Shell mask, the Pumpkin Mask, and the Skull Mask. For a Chao to put on a mask you must give it a Skeleton Dog. To get the Egg Shell mask get an egg shell from a Chao that has hatched and give it to him. To get the pumpkin mask select Rouge or Knuckles and dig around the Neutral or Hero gardens. The Skull Mask is buried in the Dark Garden. Use Rouge or Knuckles and dig around the garden untill you find it. Be careful, the only way for a Chao to take of a mask is to hit or throw it. I've heard that Chao will get bored of it and take it off, however, I've waited for a hero Chao that had a pumpkin mask on one week to take it off and he never did.

It is sad, but all Chao die. You can make them live longer by taking really good care of them. Chao have to be really affectionate for you to be reborn. Here are some ways to make your Chao love you.

Pet it when its good

Cuddle it often

Keep it well fed (but don't overfeed it)

Take it to classes occasionally

Take it out of the water when it is struggling.

When you think somethings wrong with it take it to the doctor

When a Chao really loves you it will do the following.

Follows you often

Loves it when you pick it up

Runs as fast as it can to you when you whistle.

So, you wanna be a parent? Ok then, lets get started. The first thing to do is go to an Action Stage and look for a light blue box with a Chao picture on it. Break the box and get the key inside. Then when you complete the stage you will enter Chao World. When you first enter Chao world you will only have one garden available. Enter the garden and you will see 2 eggs. Hatch them and now you is the time to start caring for your Chao.

Feeding - Chao need food to live. When they get hungry go in front of a tree and hold B. Then push the Anolog Thumb Pad in any direction and the character will start shaking the tree. If the nuts are ripe they will shake. If they are not the will not shake. Pick up the nut and then give it to your Chao and it will start eating. It will leave behind some of the nut it doesn't want. (unless it was REALLY hungry)

Petting - Pet your Chao to show love and affection. Pet your Chao only when it's good or you'll spoil your Chao. To pet a Chao go in front of your Chao and press Y until the message next to the B button picture says 'Pet'. Then press B.

Cuddling - Cuddling your Chao is a very good way to show love and affection for a Chao and it doesn't spoil Chao like Petting does. To cuddle your pick up your Chao and, while still holding B, move the analog thumb pad in any direction.

Below are things NOT to do to Chao.

Take nuts away from it - If you do this it will start crying A LOT.

Hitting - This is most of the time accidental. If you accidently do this feed it nuts and cuddle it.

Force it to eat - If you make your Chao eat a lot of nuts it will cry like there's no tommorow.
