The Notables was originally founded as the Hughes Chorus.  That history is given below.

In 1984, the Hughes Choir chose for itself the name "The Notables", and was henceforth known as the Hughes "Notables" Chorus.

• History of the Hughes Notables Chorus (1984-97)

On July 1, 1997,  The Notables became an independent entity, henceforth known simply as "The Notables".
